Sonu Nigam Keeps His Promise, Shaves Head, Questions Fatwa

Shaving his head as promised in a tweet, singer Sonu Nigam questioned the fatwas being issued in the country.

Mumbai: After a fatwa was issued against him for tweeting against azaan through loudspeakers, popular singer Sonu Nigam shaved his head on Wednesday as promised in a tweet. Addressing the press earlier, he questioned the fatwas being issued in the country. “Shaving hair is no challenge, it’s a symbolic move. Just asking what are you making this country? What are these fatwas?” he asked. He was referring to a fatwa issued by a Muslim cleric.

Sonu’s tweet against noisy azaan through loudspeakers two days ago led to angry debates.  He tweeted, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will the forced religiousness end in India.” Instantly there were angry reactions from various sections.

Amidst the cacophony, a cleric belonging to Minority United Council in West Bengal issued a fatwa against Sonu Nigam.

He announced, “If anyone can shave his hair, garland him with old shoes and tour him around the country, I would award Rs. 10 lakh for that person.”

Responding to the fatwa, Sonu tweeted, “Today at 2 pm Aalim will come to my place and shave my head. Keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulavi”. He also invited the cleric to his home to witness and award the barber.
