Sons of Well-Known Telugu Film Family Named In Drugs Case; Sabharwal Gets Threatening Calls
Hyderabad: The drugs case has picked up pace during the last several hours, with actor Subbaraju spilling quite some beans, Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal receiving threatening calls and actor Tarun being questioned from Saturday morning onwards at the office of the Special Investigation Team.
During his 13-hour grilling, Subbaraju named two sons of a well-established family in the Telugu film industry as drug users, apart from several producers, heroes, heroines and others related to the field. In all, the actor, who largely plays negative roles, divulged 15 names. As for himself, he maintained he does not do drugs.
Even as these murky details were coming out, Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal received threatening calls, warning him against proceeding with the drugs case. Shockingly, the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) caller identified the institution where the officeras children are studying. An African language could be heard in the background of the call. This has strengthened suspicions that international drug mafia too is linked to the Hyderabad drugs case. It is already known that Calvin Mascarenhas, Accused Number 1 in the case, was procuring drugs from the Netherlands, several European countries and Chicago in the USA.
The turn to be interrogated is now that of actor Tarun, who reached the SIT office on Saturday morning along with his father Chakrapani. His interrogation follows that of Puri Jagannadh, Syam K Naidu and Subbaraju. Tarun visited a temple before he arrived for his questioning.
SIT sources said Subbaraju has also revealed names of pubs in Madhapur, Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills, which made drugs available to those who wanted them, provided they came through established contacts. Blood, hair and nail samples of the actor have been collected. Subbaraju acknowledged that he too visited pubs, had met Calvin there twice or thrice and also spoke the drug peddler. A lot that the actor disclosed was only after being confronted with evidence available with the police. He could leave the SIT office only at 11:10 pmAon FridayAnight.
Management and owners of 17 pubs have been summoned for interrogationAon Saturday.
Akun Sabharwal asserted that they will be interrogating all celebrities whose names have come out during various interrogations.
Meanwhile, Intelligence Department has started investigating the VoIP call made to the Enforcement Director. Security has been extended to his children. His wife, Smita, is an IAS officer with the Chief Ministeras Office.
