Solar lamps to help students during exam time
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government will provide solar lamps free of cost to 10th class students to enable them to prepare for their examinations without any interruptions caused by power outages.
This was disclosed by Minister for Power G. Jagadish Reddy in the Telangana Assembly while replying to a question by G. Balaraju and others regarding the hardships being faced by students appearing for the public examinations, due to power cuts and frequent disruption in power supply.
Asserting that the government had taken all steps to ensure that there would not be any power cuts and interruptions in the supply, especially between 6 pm to 10 pm, so that the students could pursue their studies during examinations, the Minister pointed out that the government was also considering a proposal to provide solar lamps to the students.
The Minister said the government was holding discussions with IIT Bombay which had agreed to supply these solar lamps. The central subsidy for each solar lamp was Rs.180 while the remaining amount of Rs. 120 would be borne by the government. Discussions were on with IIT Bombay for supply of four lakh solar lamps.
Answering supplementaries, the Minister assured that students in villages and remote places would also be provided with the solar lamps. (NSS)
