Signature Campaign Demanding Relief For Prof Saibaba
Hyderabad: Intellectuals and civil rights activists have participated on Thursday in a signature campaign demanding the governments In Centre and the states to desist from acting against Professor Saibaba and his associates.
Prof Saibaba and others were sentenced to life imprisonment for having contacts with Moist party. Saibaba is 90 percent physically crippled and is confined to a wheel chair. The Gadchiroli district judge who pronounced the sentence commented that no consideration has to be shown in case of Prof Saibaba on account of his physical disability since he is very alert mentally.
The signature campaign was started by writer and rights activists Vara Vara Rao, senior journalist K Ramachandra Murthy, Aam Aadmi Party leader Professor Visweswara Rao, Human Rights leader Jeevan Kumar and Sandhya, a leader of the Left movement. Leaders of CPM, CPI and other political parties besides a large number of intellectuals have taken part in the campaign. Prof Saibaba had spent one year in jail without a single allegation being proved in any court. He was granted bail by Supreme Court.
