Security alert in Telugu States
Hyderabad: A high alert has been sounded on the eve of Republic Day on Thursday in the two Telugu speaking States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The alert followed a warning by terrorist groups.
The Intelligence Bureau has warned that there was a possibility of the SIMI and IM groups activate sleeper cells. Following the IB alert, the police of both the States have stepped up security and all precautions have been taken for Republic Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, Shamshabad International Airport was alerted and passengers of international and domestic flights were asked to report at the airport two hours before departure of the plane. Passengers and those who are reaching the airport to see off their dear ones are being thoroughly checked by the security personnel.
Police appeal to people: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner has appealed to the general public not to carry hand bags, briefcases, cameras, tiffin boxes or other containers while proceeding to the Parade Grounds to watch the Republic Day parade.
Vehicle parking at Raj Bhavan: As a large number of dignitaries will attend a programme at Raj Bhavan in connection with Republic Day celebrations on Thursday evening and a large number of vehicles will be parked near the Raj Bhavan, following parking arrangements have been made.
The city traffic police have advised the general public/vehicle users to take alternative routes from the Monappa Island to VV statue junction (Khairatabad) on either side of Raj Bhavan road in order to avoid inconvenience from 1530 hours to 1930 hours on Republic Day. Pink color car pass holders will be allowed through Gate No.1 and their vehicles will be allowed to park inside parking lots at Raj Bhavan. White color car pass holders will be allowed to park vehicles at parking lots at Raj Bhavan and in the following parking places after allowing them through Gate No. III. Parking at MMTS parking lot, Park Hotel near MMTS, Katriya lane, inside Jaya Garden function hall, single lane parking from Metro Residency to NASR School, single lane parking from Lake View guest house to VV statue junction.
Governor greets people: Governor ESL Narasimhan has greeted Telangana people on the occasion of 68th Republic Day. He said everyone should remember the martyrs and those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Telangana State was celebrating the Republic Day for third consecutive time this year, he said. “My Government is implementing several welfare and developmental programs to meet the aspirations of the people and make their dreams true, he said. Appealing to the youth to participate in the welfare schemes, the Governor exhorted the youth to make collective efforts for the State’s development. He also advised persistent efforts to ensure that the State is transformed into golden Telangana as per people’s aspirations. -NSS
