Seats In AP, TS Assemblies Sure To Increase: Venkaiah Naidu
New Delhi: A Cabinet note is being prepared in Home Ministry to effect an increase in the number of seats in the legislative assemblies of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, said Union Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu.
Quoting an answer given by Deputy Home Minister Hansraj to the question asked by TRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy in the Parlaiment on Tuesday, some TV channels started showing breaking news that the Centre has clarified it’s stand that the number of Assembly seats in the two Telugu states cannot be increased now, as there is a need to amend article 171 (3), which is not in place as of now.
While reacting to these news items, Venkaiah Naidu called up Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and enquired about the issue. Naidu then stated that a cabinet note is being prepared in the Home Ministry to suggest required amendments so as to effect the increase in the number of Assembly seats in the legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Naidu said that the Deputy Home Minister might have gone ahead with his reply with the available information.
The AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, mentions that there will be reconstitution of the Assembly constituencies and the number is seats in AP and Telangana State Assemblies will be increased. Keeping this possibility in view both the chief ministers, Nara Chandrababu and K Chandrashekhar Rao, hag encouraged defections by MLAs from opposition parties.
