Scribes necked out of Secretariat C block
HYDERABAD: Much to the indignation of journalist community, the Telangana Government today restricted entry of scribes into C Block of the Secretariat which accommodates the office of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Security personnel sent out rather roughly the scribes sitting at the Chief Public Relations Officer’s chambers on the ground floor of the same block on Monday afternoon. Some five to six scribes were asked by the security staff to leave the premises keeping security problem in view.
According to sources, the security staff at the CMO had taken a cue from Information officials in sending out the reporters from the CPRO’s chambers. This led to discomfort and embarrassment to the journalists who were on their routine beat of the Secretariat.
In the past, there were no such restrictions though late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had unsuccessfully tried to put curbs on the media. He was forced to withdraw his decision to restrict the media into the Secretariat as the Opposition parties and journalists’ unions raised a hue and cry.
KCR is also experimenting with similar restrictions on the media so far as its entry into the Secretariat is concerned. Several journalists unions and political parties condemned today’s incident in the C block.
It may be recalled that at his meeting with senior journalists at the Telangana Press Academy announced several sops like health desk and three bedroom flats in the city, hinted that there would be restrictions on the media though not a complete ban. (NSS)
