Scam in Godavari River water to Hyderabad
- Akbaruddin demands investigation
HYDERABAD: Alleging that corruption took place in the Godavari River Water to Hyderabad City Scheme, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has demanded that the State Government order an inquiry to find out those responsible for the Rs 2000-crore scam.
Participating in the debate on budget here on Monday in the Assembly, Owaisi made it clear that he has irrefutable evidence to prove the corruption charge and alleged that Rs 2,000 crore was spent only for one line from Hyderabad to the river Godavari. He also asked when the Godavari water will reach Hyderabad City.
Stating that the Muslim minorities are more backward than SCs and STs, Owaisi demanded that the Government provide facilities to the former similar to SCs and STs. He asked the Government to provide free bus pass to the Muslim students and set up Career Guidance Cell on behalf of Minority Welfare Department. He also urged the government to set up Legal Counseling Cell for Muslim women, who were facing various problems. He asked the Government to provide financial assistance to the minority women. Ration shops should be located at short distances instead of forcing beneficiaries to walk long distances.
Alleging that there was no drinking water facility to the people though there are four Water Reservoirs in the Old City, he asked the Government to provide drinking water on war-footing. He alleged that the Government has failed to provide Metro Rail facility to the Old City similar to New City and demanded that the government do the same. Alleging that the government was hounding small time businessmen in the name of beautification of Charminar, Owaisi asked the Government to give same priority to other architectural monuments like Pattarghatti.
Finding fault with the GHMC officials for harassing the poor for failing to pay property tax, he demanded that the government concentrate on corporate offices, hotels and industrialists to pay property tax. He also demanded that the government penalize the GHMC officials for failing to collect taxes from government offices. Alleging that the Residential School in his constituency was suffering from lack of funds, Owaisi demanded that the government establish 100 residential schools for the Minorities. He also demanded that the government fill the vacant teacher posts in the Urdu Madarasas.
Shadi Mubarak scheme hailed
Appreciating Shadi Mubarak scheme, Owaisi suggested to the government not to harass the eligible candidates in the name of producing various certificates. He urged the government to convene a meeting with the Muslim MLAs to discuss the issue. He also asked the government to reopen the DBR Mills, Azamjahi Mills, Sirsilk, IDPL and others to provide job opportunities to the Telangana youth. Demanding that the government implement the Mission Kakatiya in Hyderabad City, he said Hyderabad city was known as City of Lakes earlier. But now, the lakes were being encroached upon by greedy private persons.
Finding fault with the allocations to the Health sector, Owaisi asked the Government as to what it will do about the fate of Osmania General Hospital, which was famous among poor. Expressing concern over the prevailing water scarcity in Hyderabad city, Owaisi asked the Government to prepare a Summer Contingency Plan’. Finding fault with the budget estimates, Owaisi said the Wakf lands at Manikonda were being encroached upon and should be taken back. He also asked the government to link the NAC, Minority Welfare Departments and implement the 12 percent reservation to the Muslims immediately. He also asked the Government as to why it failed to allocate adequate funds to the Osmania University, which is going to celebrate centenary celebrations, and said the University is facing several problems.
Plea to develop churches, dargahs
Welcoming the government’s decision to allocate Rs 100 crore every year for the development of Yadagirigutta, Owaisi demanded that the Government also develop Churches and Dargahs in the State on par with the Yadagirigutta by allocating funds. He also demanded that the government, which gave two-day holiday on the occasion of Ed, give two days holidays on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
Expressing concern over the government for not allocating funds to the Housing scheme, Owaisi demanded that the Government look after the issue. He also demanded that government lands be protected and allot the same to the poor to construct houses. He requested the government to appoint employees in the Minority Welfare Department as there was no single employee now. He urged the Government to appoint a few more reporters in the Assembly as there was no adequate staff.
Responding to Owaisi’s demands, Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Ramarao said more than Rs 1,000 crore was allotted to the Minorities and no previous government had done the same. He said pensions were provided to the Minorities on par with others and 7.5 percent of Minorities were getting ‘Asara’ pensions. The Government will provide all the facilities to the Minorities on par with the SCs and STs, he added. (NSS)
