SC To Decide If Advani, Joshi Should Face Trial In Babri Case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court is likely to decide on Thursday if BJP veterans like LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi will face trial in the decades-old Babri Masjid demolition case. The court reserved its verdict after hearing arguments on April 7.
However, the court indicated that it will use its extraordinary powers under the Constitution to transfer the demolition related case in Rae Bareilly against top leaders Advani and Joshi to Lucknow, where CBI court is hearing serious criminal charges against lakhs of unknown kar sevaks, for razing down the 16th-century structure at Ayodhya on 6 December 1992.
The leaders were acquitted by a court at Rae Bareli and the order was upheld by Allahabad High court in 2010. However, after the CBI challenged the order, the Supreme Court said it would not accept the discharge on technical grounds. It said it will take up the case and deal with expeditiously.
