Sasikala Getting Special Privileges In Jail, Karnataka CM Orders Probe
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a high-level probe into allegations that AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala was being provided special privileges in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru.
“We have taken serious cognisance of the allegations of irregularities in Bengaluru Central Prison and have ordered a high-level enquiry,” Siddaramaiah disclosed.
There was uproar in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka following a report by Karnataka Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Roopa Moudgil that Sasikala was being provided special privileges.
The DIG stated in her report that Sasikala had paid Rs. 2 crore as bribe to Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao and other jail staff for allowing the AIADMK leader special privileges. “As a reward for bribing the prison authorities from Rao to jail warden, Sasikala gets special menu daily, cooked by special chefs in a special kitchen near the women’s cell,” Roopa is said to have mentioned in the report.
The DIG also stated that the AIADMK General Secretary was getting royal treatment in the women’s cell, where she has been lodged to serve her sentence after getting sentenced in the disproportionate assets case.
While DGP Satyanarayana Rao has termed the charges baseless, Roopa has asserted that she is ready for a high-level probe to prove the irregularities at the high profile Bengaluru prison.
Apart from the Sasikala’s issue, the DIG’s report also listed that 18 of the 25 inmates, who were randomly tested for taking drugs, reported positive. She also mentioned that Abdul Karim Telgi, who was arrested in the sensational counterfeit stamps case, has three to four helpers for massaging his legs and shoulders. He was allowed helpers by a court six months back when he was using a wheelchair. But the facilities haven’t been withdrawn, the report pointed out.
