Naidu Will Increase Prices Only to Benefit Contractors: Jagan at Rythu Deeksha
Amaravati: Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would increase the prices only to benefit the contractors and to burden the people.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of his two-day ‘Rythu Deeksha’ at Guntur, Jagan Mohan Reddy came down heavily on Naidu for neglecting the farmers in the State.
Jagan said that the farmers were crying for minimum support price for their produce like chillies, green gram, black gram, subabul and mangoes. The prices of these produce have come down drastically this year as the chief minister was focusing more only on helping the contractors, he alleged.
Jagan said that Naidu had increased the prices for the contractors of Polavaram Project, Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme, the temporary secretariat and other projects, turning a blind eye to the woes of the farming community.
Naidu increased the RTC bus fare and the electricity charges in the last three years, increasing burden on the people, Jagan said.
The prices of mangoes, which were at Rs 30,000 a ton, have gone down alarmingly to Rs 7,000 this year. Similarly, the prices of chillies and other produce have also come down, he said, and blamed the chief minister and his government for not taking any interest to help the farming community.
Jagan said that the farming community, which had enjoyed the patronage of the government during late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, would see the similar golden era only once the YSR Congress comes to power. He wanted the farmers to back the YSR Congress in the next elections to end their woes.
