RK, Ganesh in police custody?
- Rights activists demand to produce them in court
Visakhapatnam: It is believed that top Maoist leaders Ramakrishna alias RK and Ganesh along with some others are in police captivity.
Revolutionary writers Varavara Rao and Kalyan Rao alleged on Thursday that the top leaders working in Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) were captured alive and kept at a secret place.
RK and Ganesh were active participants in the talks with AP government in 2004 when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister. Varavara Rao demanded that the leaders under captivity must be produced in a court immediately.
Rights activists have alleged that there was only one incident on Monday in Malkangiri forest where the police fired on sleeping Maoists and killed them in cold blood. Though more than 30 Maoists were killed in the 30-minute operation, the police have been announcing the deaths in installments. First, they said that 24 Maoists were killed in the main encounter in which a constable of Greyhounds Abu Bakar was seriously wounded. He succumbed to the injuries on his way to hospital.
Then, four Maoists were killed in the encounter that reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning. Again there was an encounter on Thursday morning, the police claim, in which two Maoists lost their lives. The activists say it is part of the tactics adopted by the police under the leadership of N Sambasiva Rao, DGP, Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana Democratic Forum convenor Prof Haragopal, members Prof PL Visweswara Rao, Justice Chandrakumar, Chikkudu Prabhakar, Jaini Malaiah, Bandi Durgaprasad, Bandla Kotaiah and others demanded that the top leaders who are in police captivity should be produced in a court at once. DGP Sambasiva Rao has earlier declared that RK and Ganesh are not with the police.
