Rio debacle: Sports Ministry begins probe
NEW DELHI: Sports Ministry announced that it has initiated a thorough probe of India’s poor performance in recently concluded Rio Olympics.
This probe includes inspecting some of the SAI centers and soliciting feedbacks and suggestions from athletes who competed in the Olympics.
In Rio Olympics, India finished with a disappointing two medals courtesy PV Sindhu’s silver in badminton and Sakshi Malik’s bronze in wrestling.
In order to improve medals tally in future events, the stakeholders need to look into the past and analyse the performance.
The Sports Ministry has also written to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to submit their feed-back on India’s performance in Rio Olympics, 2016 and steps for improving the performance in future.
Post the Rio debacle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced setting up of a task force keeping in mind the next three Olympics.
