- ACB lays pucca trap and succeeds in recording evidence
Hyderabad, May 31: TDP MLA Revanth Reddy was arrested by the personnel of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday for trying to bribe an independent MLA, Elvis Stephenson who was nominated by the Governor, for voting in favour of the party candidates in the MLC election slated for Monday, June 1. In a dramatic development that is certain to cause heavy damage to the personal reputation of the young and dynamic TDP leader in Telangana, Revanth Reddy, while affecting the TDPas image adversely, the ACB laid a perfect trap to catch hold of the MLA red-handed. Political circles were agog with rumours of Revanthas arrest right from the afternoon. The police confirmed the arrest in the evening. By about 9 pm, a number of Telugu news channels started showing visuals of Revanth indulging in loose talk with Stephenson for 22 minutes. Revanth was talking freely not knowing that he was being recorded by secret cameras arranged by the sleuths. AThe young MLA who has been in politics for two decades threw caution to the winds and indulged in boast saying that he would become president of Telangana TDP in six months and would take care of Stephenas interests. The visuals showed Revanthas assistant bring in a black bag and take out bundles of five hundred rupee notes worth Rs 50 lakh and put them on the teapoy.
On being arrested, Revanth was seen accusing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of politically fixing him in a cooked up case. He threatened to dislodge the CM and reverse all the decisions that were aimed at helping KCRas relative to amass wealth. Erraballi Dayakara Rao, senior TDP leader, L Ramana, TTDP president, and other TTDP leaders met the DGP and complained that the TRS government has been acting against Reventh Reddy out of vendetta. ACB DIG AK Khan told media persons that there is an irrefutable evidence to show that Revanth Reddy had indulged in criminal activity of trying to bribe an MLA for voting in favour of TDP candidate. An amount of Rs 50 lakh was confiscated from the TDP MLA, he said. Three persons have been arrested in this connection till late in the night. The DIG said the MLA and his associates will be produced in the court tomorrow.
Revanth Reddy was heard telling Stephenson that he was sent by his boss (meaning TDP president and AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu) and the amount offered was Rs 5 crore. An advance of Rs 50 lakh was being paid. If the MLA was expecting more money, it has to be cleared by the boss, Revanth was heard saying. The TDP MLA also told Stephen that he is close to Ravi Prakash of TV9 and V Radhakrishna of Andhra Jyothy in the media and Jaipal Reddy happened to be his uncle and Jana Reddy (both senior Congress leaders) also is a close relative. He claimed that Jana Reddy told him that he cannot fight KCR and offered his support to him (Revanth) in his fight against the TS CM. Only yesterday, a TDP MLA, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, representing Kukatpally constituency in Hyderabad had deserted the TDP and jumped on to the TRS bandwagon.
