Renaming A P Express as Telangana Express soon
HYDERABAD: The A P Express running between Hyderabad and New Delhi would soon be renamed as Telangana Express as demanded by the new state of Telangana.
This was reaffirmed by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday while interacting with the media in the national capital on Friday. He assured that A.P State would be adequately compensated with the introduction of a new express train on similar lines.
Refuting the criticism of the Opposition about the railway budget presented by Suresh Prabhu in Parliament on Thursday, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed out that the railway budget this time was not the routine and traditional like the ones in the past. He hailed the budget as it was meant for the welfare and interests of the common man and not intended to garner publicity.
Referring to the criticism of the Congress leaders belonging to the two Telugu states, the Union Minister pointed out that the allocation for the South Central Railway was increased by 25 percent when compared to the last budget. In the past there were only assurances and no actions, he quipped.
Referring to criticism of the Centre by the Congress and Telugu Desam for not mentioning the demand for a new railway zone at Visakhapatnam, Mr. Naidu said that it was under the active consideration of the central government and he was confident that a positive decision would be taken shortly in this regard.
Meanwhile, APCC President N. Raghuveera Reddy described the railway budget as a publicity stunt. If the promises made to the AP state in the AP Reorganization Act were not fulfilled, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should quit. (NSS)
