Reliance Jio Welcome Offer may be extended

NEW DELHI: Good news for Reliance Jio Welcome Offer subscribers! Jio is reported to have been planning to extend free 4G services till March 2017. Initially, during the launch, Mukesh Ambani had announced that the services would be free until December 31.

Last week, there were reports that the welcome offer which gives subscribers unlimited 4G data, voice calls and free roaming would come to an end on December 3.

Now, Reliance Jio has informed analysts that it may extend free data and voice calls services till March 2017. Under the Jio Welcome Offer, Reliance is giving 4GB of 4G data on a daily basis with unlimited 4G night data between 2 am and 4 am.

According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) rules, a service provider can provide free services only for 90 days.

In a recent press statement, Reliance Jio head of strategy and planning, Anshuman Thakur, said it is very much likely that the company could extend the offer till March 2017.

He had said, “We have told Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and government that customers have faced issues with regard to the quality of service due to the interconnection congestion and they have not been able to enjoy the services that they deserve and what we want to deliver to them. And till we are in a position where we can deliver the quality of service as desired by the Jio management, it will be unfair to charge the customer.”

Reliance Jio needs to take TRAI approval before making any announcement on this matter.
