Reliance 4G LYF phone bursts into flames
Mumbai: Exploding phones seem to be the buzzword for the year 2016. In a shocking incident on Sunday, a 4G LYF phone sold by Reliance Retail reportedly exploded and burst into flames.
The incident was reported by Tanvir Sadiq, political secretary to the working president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He shared the bizarre incident with a photo of charred LYF phone on Twitter.
Sadiq wrote in his tweet,A�a�?My family had a narrow escape today after @reliancejioa�?s @Reliance_LYF phone exploded & burst into flames.a�?
Reliance Lyf is the smartphone brand of Reliance Jio. Reliance Lyfa��s Twitter responded to Sadiqa��s tweets asking him for his contact details in order to assist. Lyfa��s social media team also wrote, a�?As discussed we are investigating on this. We will get back to you with further updates.a�?
A Reliance spokesperson said, a�?LYF range of phones are designed and manufactured with global standards by some of the worlda��s leading manufacturers of mobile phones. Each phone goes through a stringent quality control process. We are concerned about the incident reported in social media and are taking the matter seriously. We are assessing the cause and will conduct a thorough investigation in the matter. Customer safety is paramount to us and, based on our findings, we will take appropriate action.a�?
This is the second incident reported about Lyf phone. Earlier in September, a 4G enabled Lyf Water 1 also allegedly exploded causing burns to Pankaj Kumar from Kathua region in Jammu and Kashmir.
This year, several incidents of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones catching fire have been reported due to faulty batteries. Samsung has eventually stopped production of the smartphone. Soon after there were reports of at least one Apple iPhone catching fire.
