KCR, What is This?

Is this the man who said RFC will be ploughed with more than lakhs of Telangana farmers

Hyderabad: Decision donating more than 300 acres of land for the expansion of Ramoji Film City by CM KCR is just like giving a chocolate to a chocolate factory owner. Is this the man who said RFC will be ploughed with more than lakhs of Telangana farmers and land will be distributed if Statehood is a reality. More surprising about this donation is that the land could not be measured as it is on Hill Terrain. Even Government sources further added that land is not suitable to till.

RFC is the largest integrated Film City in the world built in 1633 acres and will deposit ₹ 36 crore as a compensation to the farmers for the newly acquired 300 acres. Right now the land is in the list of assigned lands and if any one comes forward as a protest against giving away the land, the Government has a plan to pay the compensation for farmers who lost the land due to RFC extension.

Revenue Department, without any hesitation, gave away the land after getting directions from CM KCR.

This is the first, biggest land allotment to a private company after Telangana state is formed, this speaks volumes about the relationship between Ramoji and KCR. The opposition flayed Telangana CM. One has to see how hardcore Telangana activists welcome it.

Pawan Being Promoted By Rival Community Leaders To Stop Jagan

Hyderabad: Some important persons of the ruling class in Andhra Pradesh have taken up the responsibility of promoting film star Pawan Kalyan in politics. The attempt appears to be two-pronged. One, to stop Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in his tracks from becoming chief minister in 2019. Two, to help Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, if possible, to continue for second term by diving the anti-establishment vote thus helping Naidu in retaining power. Otherwise, make Pawan Kalyan the chief minister by leading the BJP-Jana Sena alliance to power.

The media barons belonging to a particular community have come into the open in supporting the Power Star. Ramoji Rao, the Media Moghul of Telugu States, has approved the publication of a cover story on Pawan Kalyan, chief of Jana Sena Party in his latest Sunday supplement. The story published on the occasion of the audio release of Katamarayudu, a film featuring Pawan Kalyan, was first of its kind in more than forty years of Eenadu’s existence. The newspaper never published a cover story in its Sunday supplement eulogising a living person who is head of a political party. The story is hundred percent positive based on an interview in which the Power Star narrates his life journey so far. The story certainly creates a very positive image for the star. It makes a very good reading.

Two promoters of TV news channels, TV9 and NTV, were on the dais when the audio release function of Katamarayudu was held. Ravi Prakash, TV9, was the first speaker. He did not say anything about the film. He straightaway supported Pawan Kalyan’s decision to contest in the forthcoming elections. Ravi Prakash said Pawan is the right person at the right time. NTV’s Narendra Chowdary, who has been close to Congress leaders like Shabbir Ali, said Pawan Kalyan has a great future in politics. Lok Satta’s Dr Jayaprakash Narayan also expressed the same sentiments at a different forum recently.

It is strange to see resourceful persons from the same community praising a person who is from a community that is traditionally opposed to their’s. It is no secret that Kammas and Kapus are at loggerheads for decades. Kapus have been manipulated by Kammas and Reddys for political ends. Kapus have been allowing themselves to be used by the two dominant castes though their percentage in population is far more. The Reddys have been enjoying political power right from Independence. The advent of Telugu Desam Party under the charismatic leadership of film hero NT Rama Rao had paved the way for enterprising Kamma community to get the reins of power. After NTR, Chandrabau Naidu has been keeping the mantle with them community.

Megastar K Chiranjeevi tried to break the wall in 2009 when he launched ‘Praja Rajya Party’. He wanted to be the first chief minister from kapu community. In a triangular contest, the PRP ended up third with 18 seats. The Congress retained power and the TDP continued to be in opposition. After the tragic death of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, the PRP was merged into the Congress and Chiranjeevi became a Rajya Sabha Member and Union Minister of State for Tourism.

After Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, the Congress came a cropper in both AP and Telangana State. The TDP fought the elections in alliance with the BJP. Pawan Kalyan has floated a party, Jana Sena. But he did not contest. He campaigned for the TDP-BJP alliance and against the YSRCP headed by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was instrumental in taking Kapu votes in Godavari districts to the TDP away from the YSRCP. The alliance won and Naidu became the first chief minister of the residual state of AP.

As Naidu’s rule has been lacklustre and mired in corruption making him unpopular, Pawan Kalyan started going to the people and organising public meetings. There have been rumours that Pawan is a tool in the hands of Naidu. He is used as a weapon against opposition leader. Whenever YS Jagan Mohan Reddy takes up a popular cause and mobilises people against the government, Pawan Kalyan goes to the same people and promises to talk to the government. Naidu makes some appropriate noise indicating that he was acting on the suggestion of Jana Sena chief. That helps in dousing the flames of discontent.

As the half-way mark was crossed and 2019 elections are fast approaching, the ruling class appears to have chalked out a strategy to move Pawan Kalyan ahead into the mainline. They have realised that anti-establishment vote is moving towards Jagan in a big way. In order to stop it, a strategy to divide the anti-establishment vote is needed. Just like Chiranjeevi unwittingly helped YS Rajasekhara Reddy to win the second term in 2009 by dividing the anti-establishment vote, the ruling class is trying to use Pawan Kalyan to play the same role so that the TDP can continue in power after the next election. The media owners never want to make Pawan Kalyan, from the rival community, a chief minister. They are bent upon stalling Jagan. Will Pawan Kalyan and Kapu community play into the hands of the ruling class once again? Will they realise that they are being used only to be thrown out later? Will the YSRCP see the game plan of the rival media owners and political leaders and learn quick lessons in order to get ready for the future battles ? Will it shed its overconfidence and start building the party from the grassroots level? So far the opposition party has options. As time moves on, the options get diminished.

KCR’s luncheon meet with Ramoji was turning point in TRS’ politics

HYDERABAD: A four-hour long meeting between Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and media baron here in January second week was the key to KCR’s reconciliation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an alliance between their two parties.

If Mr. Modi agrees to take Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs into the NDA fold as is being speculated for the past few days, Ms. K. Kavitha and Mr. A. P. Jitender Reddy are the two most likely candidates. Veteran TRS leader and Rajya Sabha member K. Keshav Rao may not get a chance and would be accommodated as a Governor after a few years.

If the alliance is forged, BJP leaders will be taken into KCR’s Cabinet. Telangana BJP president G. Kishen Reddy and its floor leader in the Assembly Kova Laxman are prime contenders for ministerial berths. This means that KCR will have to drop two TRS Ministers. As of now, Jogu Ramanna may be asked to make the sacrifice while the process is on to identify the other Minister.

KCR’s journey from dubbing Prime Minister Modi as `a fascist’ six months ago to making every effort now to befriend him is fascinating. Riding high on his multiple achievements of getting a separate Telangana State, leading the TRS to power almost single-handedly and becoming the first-ever Chief Minister of the fledgling State, KCR was reluctant to have any truck with the saffron party because of its pre-election alliance with his bête noir Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

KCR changes tack after Naidu’s initiatives on Swachh Bharat

Chandrasekhar Rao’s antipathy towards the NDA was such that his was the only Government that did not respond to the Prime Minister’s call of implementing Swachh Bharat, a non-partisan programme. Ever quick on the uptake, Naidu hailed the programme immediately while KCR did not utter a word till he decided to court the BJP strongman.

It all began when Mr. Modi suggested to KCR sometime ago to call on media baron Ch. Ramoji Rao, considered Mr. Naidu’s mentor, and sort out issues relating to regularization of some 1600 acres of land at Ramoji Film City. His advice came after the media baron met him along with family members, including his grandson, where he showed Mr. Modi an album containing illustrations of a plan to build ‘Om City’ near the Film City in Hyderabad. The Prime Minister was quite impressed with the idea and expressed his support.

Both had already enjoyed a good equation as evident from the Eenadu owner being seated in the front row at Mr. Modi’s swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapathi Bhavan whereas Mr. Naidu was seen sitting in the third row. Mr. Ramoji Rao had a good rapport with Atal Behari Vapayee too during the NDA regime.

Mr. Modi asked KCR, ostensibly at the media baron’s request, if he would cooperate in making the ‘Om City’ project a success. This was a tricky situation for KCR as he was a known Ramoji Rao baiter and had targeted him during the peak of the Telangana agitation. He had threatened to use thousands of ploughs to dig up the vast extent of land allegedly grabbed by the media baron who hails from Andhra. However, Mr. Modi nudged him again at the recent meeting of Chief Ministers held in connection with the inauguration of Niti Aayog by telling KCR that it would be good if he built bridges with Mr. Ramoji Rao.

Visit to Ramoji Film City was the turning point

After Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu pursued the idea, KCR visited Ramoji Film City where he had lunch with a person whom he appeared to dislike till recently. Against the scheduled one hour, they sat chatting for four hours after which KCR praised the media baron at a public meeting. Being enterprising youngsters, KCR’s children K. Taraka Rama Rao and Kavitha had no qualms in doing business with any party.

Ms. Kavitha, having made her mark in Parliament, was keen on becoming a Minister. The groundwork for KCR’s political tete-a-tete with Mr. Modi and with BJP president Amit Shah was done by Mr. Jitender Reddy, TRS MP from Mahaboobnagar, who was with the BJP earlier.

This ensured that KCR would get to discuss politics with Mr. Modi on Monday after attending the wedding reception of Mr. Amit Shah’s son the previous evening. Mr. Rao left Kavitha and other MPs at Ashoka Hotel and left alone for the Prime Minister’s residence at 7 Race Course Road. PMO staff were not allowed to be present at their 40-minute long meeting where the possibility of an alliance was reportedly discussed.

If these reports turn out to be true, Mr. Ramoji Rao will have obliging Chief Ministers in both the Telugu speaking States and KCR will be partnering with the BJP, reducing TDP to just a footnote in Telangana politics.
