Ram Nath Kovind To Be Sworn In President Shortly
New Delhi: President-elect Ram Nath Kovind will shortly be taking oath as the 14th President of India in the Central Hall of Parliament. Chief Justice of India, JS Khehar will administer him the oath of Office,
Kovind will be the second Dalit leader to assume the highest Constitutional post after KR Narayanan.
Outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee and President-elect Kovind are to arrive in the Central Hall in a ceremonial procession. Those to be present at the swearing-in ceremony include Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, union ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, ambassadors and other diplomats, MPs and senior civil and military officers.
Ram Nath Kovind will begin the day with a visit to Raj Ghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi before heading to Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he will be received by President Pranab Mukherjee. Both will then proceed to Parliament.
Ram Nath Kovind has invited three of his friends – Satish Chandra Misra, Madhusudan Goel, Dr Jaigopal for the ceremony. Eight of his family members have already reached Delhi. His brother Ramnath Anan Pyarelal, sister-in-law Vidyawathi and others too have arrived.
