Railway passenger facilities set to get a boost with new development works
- Prabhu launches various projects at Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Giving a boost to passenger convenience, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched various rail-infra developmental works on Friday at Railway Institute, Vijayawada.
The Railway Minister participated in the programme from New Delhi through remote video link. Simultaneously, functions were held at Guntur, Piduguralla, Tirupati and Rayadurga in South Central Railway involving public representatives and dignitaries.
The works launched were: Laying of foundation stone for construction of new railway line between Nadikudi and Srikalahasti stations; launch of high speed Wi-Fi at Guntur Railway Station; dedication of Route Relay Interlocking at Vijayawada to the nation; dedication of newly constructed hostel building in Electric Traction Training Centre, Vijayawada to the nation; flagging off of Train No. 22708 Tirupati-Visakhapatnam Double Decker AC Express; commissioning of Rayadurg-Kalyandurga Section (part of new line between Rayadurg and Tumakuru).
Addressing the gathering at all the five locations from New Delhi, Suresh Prabhu acknowledged the cooperation extended by the Andhra Pradesh State Government towards developing railway network in the State. He assured of holistic development of the State by strengthening integrated transport solutions and integrated port connectivity. He stated that his ministry has increased the budget outlay for the State in the last two years for speeding up projects such as new lines, doubling, tripling and electrification etc. On this occasion, the Ministry of Railways and the Andhra Pradesh Government have signed a joint venture agreement for taking up rail infra development in the state.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the rail projects in the State have been given due attention and allocated funds for their progress. He advised railway officials to prepare plans for future needs, launch them, ground them and take forward with determination. He assured cooperation for the progress of rail works in the State.
To commemorate the golden jubilee celebrations of South Central Railway, a coffee table book titled “Wheels of Change” was released. –NSS
