Rahul’s Venue, Sanga Reddy; Indira Moment For Congress
Sangareddy:”Telangana Praja Gharjana” will be organised by Telangana congress on June 1st at Sanga Reddy. There is a strong nostalgia aspect for the decision to hold meeting at Sangareddy. The national party has sweet memories for the Congress from 1979.
Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi addressed a huge rally at Sanga Reddy in 1979 and went on to win the general elections in 1980 with Congress party coming back to power after the Emergency. It was a moment of revival for the badly hit party. Indira Gandhi has chosen Medak as a second constituency in the 1980 elections. The other constituency was her old Rae Bareli where Socialist leader Raj Narayan trounced her in 1977 elections held soon after the Emergency was lifted. Now her grandson and scion of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty will be trying his luck from the same constituency which had elected his grandmother in 37 years ago with a thumping majority.
TPCC president Uttam Kimar Reddy and other leaders hope that the magic will work again and bring them to power if they work with dedication and commitment.
Rahul Gandhi will certainly ignite the past memories on June 1st at Ambedkar Stadium. 2019 elections will be crucial for the Congress party both at centre and in the state. Rahul’s public meeting will launch the Congress campaign for the elections two years away in right earnest. The party has to first overcome the divided loyalties and group politics. The unity of purpose that was vigible in 1979-80 when all the leaders worked for Indira Gandhi with single-minded devotion has to be revived. The group politics which have been the bane of the Congress have to be buried in order to Face well-entrenched Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the resurgent BJP.
