Prof Saibaba’s Wife Says His Health Is Precarious
Hyderabad; The following is a letter written by Vasanta, wife of Professor Saibaba of Delhi University, who visited her husband at Nagpur jail. She says Saibaba’s health condition is precarious and he has been given medicines properly.
I met saibaba today ( Wednesday) at around 11am through jaali mulakat at Nagpur Central Jail. His health is very precarious and in dangerous condition. The Jail authorities are not providing any medical support. In addition, a false and dubious medical report is being under preparation. Even the BP of Sai is abnormal, but in the medical records it was being reported as normal. The medicines sent to him through advocates are being given to him only under emergency. The previous health problems like Stones in kidneys, chest pain, breathlessness have got aggravated in addition to gall bladder and pancreatic pain. Due to Prostate problem he is unable to pass urine. In this one month of Jail life he has suffered pancreatic pain three times. He was advised by Rockland hospital for review of pancreas problem and for new course of medicines. So far no such review was done in the Jail. As per the doctor ‘s advice he has to take two tablets daily for heart problem and other medicine for pancreatic pain. Both these medicines are not given to him. He is unable to consume the Jail food.
He is kept in dark about all news. News items of his interest and news on protest programs in his support are cut and sensored news papers are being given to him. Many of the sentences in the letters written by him informing his health were struck out by the Jail authorities. At the same time some of the letters written to him have not been given to him. Letters written by me were also not given. Manjeera’s letter was not handed to him alleging it as coded one. Actually it is on the novel Manjeeraa read recently as part of her course. This time I was able to give him one bedsheet and a towel.
The temperature at Nagpur is very high. The State with its repressesive mechanism and indifferent altitude, trying to keep Saibaba’s life at stake and want to get the statement of Sessions court revised to award greater punishment than life imprisonment without evidence and trial.
