Prime Minister met service chiefs
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian Army, Air Force Chiefs and Vice Chief of the Navy to discuss the prevailing security situation in the aftermath of deadly Uri terror attack at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Saturday.
Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral K B Singh met the Prime Minister. Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba is out of town.
Immediately after Uri attack, the Prime Minister had vowed in a strongly worded tweet that he will not let the perpetrators go “unpunished”.
Earlier, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had asserted that the prime minister’s promise to punish those behind the Uri terror attack would not remain just words.
Other important ministers in the government have also expressed similar sentiments on the terror attack.
According to some news reports, besides discussions on prevailing security situation in the country, the meeting assumes significance as it comes against the backdrop of the deadly Uri attack, in which India has held Pakistan responsible for perpetrating terrorist attacks on Indian soil.
Later in the day, Modi is going to address BJP officer-bearers in a Kozhikode, and he is expected to explain the government’s response to the terror attack on Army installation.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was also present in the meeting.
