Hyderabad: NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Hyderabad City on Tuesday, a day after opposition parties’ candidate Meira Kumar had visited the city as part of her campaign.

Kovind met TRS MLAs and MPs at a meeting organised at Jala Vihar. Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made it clear that his party is completely supporting the NDA candidate. He sought the blessings of Ram Nath for development of the State. It may be recalled that Meira Kumar had disclosed on Monday that opposition parties had strategies to obtain support from the TRS.

The Chief Minister reminded that Telangana was formed on June 2, 2014, when the State was facing many problems. However, the State could overcome severe power crisis within a short time. Saying that Telangana has now emerged as a welfare State, he pointed out that the government is giving pensions to nearly 30 lakh people.

Later, the Chief Minister hosted lunch in honour of Kovind. Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Bandaru Dattatreya and many BJP leaders, TRS MPs, MLAs and other important leaders and functionaries participated in it.

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu thanked TRS and the Chief Minister for supporting the NDA candidate. Heaping praises on TRS for being the first non-NDA party to announce support for Kovind, Venkaiah Naidu said the NDA candidate is apolitical and has experience to fulfil the Constitutional obligations, as he had functioned as a Governor.

Kovind will later be travelling to Vijayawada to seek support from legislators and MPs of Andhra Pradesh.

Presidential Poll; Congress Likely To Counter BJP With Dalit Card

Congress party wants to counter BJP in Presidential elections by filing a candidate from Dalit Community.

New Delhi: After BJP announced its Presidential candidate, opposition which is under immense pressure to field a candidate soon, which is likely to be decided after the meeting with allies on June 22nd.

Win of NDA candidate Kovind is a certainty but the Congress is least bothered about the result and wants to contest with same Dalit card used by PM Modi.

In Congress party’s scheme, mainly two names are circulating, one is of former Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and the other is that of Meira Kumar, former Lok Sabha Speaker. Both belong to Dalit community.

There is a mixed response from the oppsotion parties after BJP announced Ram Nath Kovind as its candidate.
Even Shiva Sena said that it will finalise the decision on Thursday. It may be recalled that Shiva Sena supported Pranab Mukharjee and Speaker Prathibha Patel earlier going against Shekawat and Sangam of NDA.

Mayawathi said that she is not against Kovind, but if Congress fields a better Dalit candidate, her party will look into it, same with Bengtal CM Mamatha Banerjee. To bring Mamatha around, PM Modi gave the responsibility to talk her to AP CM Naidu but things look different now and it will be difficult to bring Mamatha into their fold. Mamata has no reason to compromise her independence and oblige Naidu.

Nitish too praised Kovind but he is also looking towards the opposition meet scheduled on June 22nd. CPI and CPI ( M) are also looking for the meet to discuss about common opposition candidate.

Meanwhile, Ram Nath Kovind, after meeting PM Modi and Amit Shah said that he will approach all manjor leaders of opposition parties for unanimous decision.

Congress however will reject his appeal and scenario at present looks like a contest between UPA and NDA for Presidential elections is likely.

It will be cake walk for Ram Nath to walk into Rastrapathi Bhavan even if he faces contest from UPA as strength for him in both Upper houses and MLAs vote bank is more than enough.
