President Ram Nath Kovind Pitches For Egalitarian India
New Delhi: The new President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday underlined that the key to India’s success lies in unity in diversity. “Every citizen of India is a nation builder, each one of us is a custodian of India’s well being and we will pass on this legacy to coming generations,” he remarked.
He was addressing the gathering after taking oath as the 14th President of India at a ceremony held at Central Hall of the Parliament House. He was earlier administered the oath of office by Supreme Court Chief Justice JS Khehar.
The new President pledged to protect the Constitution and carry out his responsibilities with all humility. New India should not only be an economic leader, it should also be a moral exemplar, he maintained.
“I bow to the 125 crore citizens of this great nation and promise to stay true to the trust they have bestowed on me,” he assured.
Kovind suggested that we must combine tradition and technology, wisdom of ancient Bharat and science of contemporary India to build an egalitarian society that will provide equality of opportunities to all. “This is the India of our dreams,” he added.
Kovind is the second Dalit to assume the highest Constitutional office after KR Narayanan.
