Pocharam Vows Help To Farmers Over Clearance Of Loans
Hyderabad: Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Monday said the State government was determined to help the farmers to overcome the problem of loans in the state.
During the question hour in the Assembly, Srinivas Reddy said the farmers are caught in the debt trap and the government was taking every step to bail them out. The farmers are in distress and could not clear loans for a long time, he bemoaned.
“Indeed it’s time to help them tide over the present crisis”, the minister reiterated. Providing remunerative price was a big solution to help them and avoid middlemen, Srinivas Reddy said.
He said some 2,000 agriculture officials were appointed to guide the farmers on latest cultivation practices, soil test, marketing and remunerative prices. Soil Test Labs will be set up and made available to the farmers, he said, adding that the farmers should go in for soil test before beginning cultivation.
Earlier, BJP member Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, TD Member R Krishnaiah sought to know the steps being taken to help the farmers in distress. Though 70 per cent of people are relying on farm activity and providing food to the entire nation, the State government has failed to help them, they alleged.
The farmers cannot remain a neglected lot by the governments as they need encouragement for increasing farm productivity.
“It is the duty of the rulers to see that the farmers get rid of the problems related to cultivation, loans, repayment, quality seed and fertilisers and getting MSP”, they said. (NSS)
