PM Reiterates Need For Simultaneous Elections

Governing Council of Niti Ayog has met in Delhi to take stock of the implementation of its Vision and action plans. PM and most of the CMS attended.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said building New India will be possible only with the cooperation of the Chief Ministers.

Addressing the Governing Council of Niti Ayog at  Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Sunday, Modi said the Centre is now giving 40 percent of tax revenues as against 25 percent earlier. He reiterated that elections for Parliament and Assemblies should be held simultaneously. The PM exhorted the Chief Ministers to invest more on creating infrastructure. The way Goods and Services Tax (GST) is going to be implemented would show the unity of purpose and federal spirit exhibited by all the States.

Niti Ayog is going ahead with 15 years vision, seven years strategy and three years of action plan. Modi has appealed to all the CMs to cooperate in implementing the vision of Niti Ayog. When India celebrates its 75 anniversary of independence in 2022, all the plans of Niti Ayog should be implemented, Modi said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benarjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal were absent. All other Chief Ministers and State Chief Secretaries have attended the meeting.

Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chairman of Niti Ayog, has earlier explained that about 300 action plans have been prepared.
