PM lives in Lok Kalyan Marg
- Race Course Road renamed
New Delhi: Delhi’s iconic Race Course Road, where the Prime Minister of India resides, has been renamed as Lok Kalyan Marg.
As news reports suggest, New Delhi Municipal Council (NMDC) has taken this decision in a meeting on Wednesday. Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, BJP MP from New Delhi constituency Meenakshi Lekhi and other members attended the meeting.
NMDC council will notify the new name to Race Course Road soon. Once notification is issued, the PM’s residential address, 7, Race Course Road, will be known as 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The proposal for name change was moved by Meenakshi Lekhi, NDMC member. Several suggestions were discussed by NMDC. After due deliberations it was decided to rename it as “Lok Kalyan Marg”.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the decision.
NDMC Chair Person Naresh Kumar said it was a unanimous decision to change the name of the road as Lok Kalyan Marg.
The change of name of the Gurdwara Rakabganj round-about to Guru Gobind Singh Chowk is seen as an effort to woo the Sikh community by both the BJP and the AAP ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls early next year.
Earlier last year, there was a controversy while renaming Aurangzeb Road as APJ Abdul Kalam Road. A number of historians had criticised the decision.
One need to understand nothing will change with these semantics unless people are really benefited with this, otherwise it is only competitive politics to gather some votes and massaging their egos.
