Parrikar To Take Over As Goa CM
Panaji: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is all set to take over as Chief Minister of Goa. He submitted his resignation to the Prime minister. Parrikar had met the MLAs who requested him to come back as chief minister. Maharashtra Gomantak Party has said that it is prepared to support the BJP if Parrikar is made the chief minister.
Parrikar met the Governor and staked his claim to form the government. Ram Madhav, BJP General Secretary said the BJP has the support of MGP, LPP, NPP and some independents.
Manohar Parrikar had led the BJP to victory in 2012 and took reins as the State’s CM. After the BJP won majority in Lok Sabha in 2014 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had picked him up as his defence minister. During the election campaign in Goa last month, Parrikar stayed put in the State and campaigned vigorously for the party candidates.
The incumbent chief ministers Laxmikant Parsekar has lost the election. Parrikar had thrown enough hints that he would like to come back to Goa. Now he has to get elected to the Assembly within six months.
