Parliamentarians Will Bid Farewell To Pranab On July 23
New Delhi: Both the Houses of Parliament will accord a grand farewell to President Pranab Mukherjee, whose term will expire on July 24. The farewell has been scheduled for July 23.
As a politician with decades of experience, Pranab Mukherjee was sworn in the 13th President of India on July 25, 2012.
As President, he had harmoniously interacted with both the Congress-led UPA Government and then the BJP-led NDA Government. During his long political life, Pranab had held key portfolios in the Union Government, including foreign affairs, defence and finance.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has finalised the schedule for election of the next President. The election will be held on July 17 and result announced on July 20.
While former Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind is the candidate of ruling National Democratic Alliance, opposition parties have fielded former Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar.
Ram Nath Kovind is expected to have a cake walk, though Meira Kumar is claiming support based on the “conscious vote”.
