Parakala Justifies Social Media Arrests In AP, Discounts Katju’s remarks
Amaravati: The AP government advisor Parakala Prabhakar justified the arrest of Inturi Ravi Kiran and Ippala Ravindra Reddy for their postings in the social media. He also discounted the comments of Supreme Court retired judge Justice Markandey Katju on the arrests and his demand for imposition of President Rule in the State. He said that Justice Katju’s comments against the AP government were uncalled for and there was no need for the government to worry about them. He said that the retired judge had made similar comments against Supreme Court, Supreme Court Judges and Journalists in the past and withdrew later.
Prabhakar said that both Ravi Kiran and Ravindra Reddy have posted several derogatory cartoons, caricatures and morphed photographs causing personal damage to several leaders, including women. The photographs and the comments were most derogatory and were of not in good taste, he said. While welcoming constructive criticism on the government and leaders, Prabhakar felt that these comments were in violation of the freedom of expression. He expressed confidence that Justice Katju would withdraw his remarks against the government after looking at the postings of these two persons in the social media.
He blamed Leader of Opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for supporting these persons and condemning the arrests. He wanted to know whether Jagan Mohan Reddy had seen the obscene photos that these persons have posted in the social media. “Be it Justice Katju or Jagan, they would go back on their words once they see these postings which are highly objectionable and derogatory,” Prabhakar asserted.
