Palvai opposes projects on Krishna
HYDERABAD: Senior Congress member in Rajya Sabha Palvai Govardhan Reddy today opposed the proposed Mahbubnagar Lift irrigation project saying it was not viable.
- Mahabubnagar Lift Irrigation canal not viable
- Instead, suggests dams on Godavari
- Flays plans on Pattiseema
Talking to media persons at the CLP office on Tuesday, Palvai argued that without knowing ground realities and facts about the project, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was talking about completing it. He advised KCR to consult experts like civil engineer Hanumanth Rao for better understanding on best possible solutions which are suitable to Telangana people. He charged the TRS government with spending crores of rupees on unviable projects on Krishna river, where water is not available. He advised that instead of constructing projects on Krishna river, KCR should concentrate on Godavari river to tap un-utilized flood water going into the sea. Godavari is life line for future generations of Telangana State, he observed.
Palvai also raised objections to the Pattiseema lift irrigation project proposed by Andhra Pradesh government. He said even if it is completed, Telangana region would not get water from the Godavari river. He demanded that KCR also stop the Pattiseema project. Palvai said his party would oppose tooth and nail on any amendments to the Land Acquisition Act at the Centre. He said that with the support of other Opposition parties, the Congress would defeat the Bill in the Rajya Sabha at any cost. He also said if BJP goes for a joint session then people would give a fitting lesson to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (NSS)
