Package to AP: Somu Veerraju says even TDP has no stake
Amaravati: BJP MLC from Andhra Pradesh, Somu Veerraju, here on Thursday claimed that the development of the State was possible only for the BJP. He discounted the claims of the TDP over the special package announced by the Central government and said that it was all because of the BJP’s initiative.
Veerraju told media persons that the TDP had no role in the special package or the funds cleared for the prestigious Polavaram project. He said that it was all because of Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu who had fought for the Polavaram Project, funds for backward districts and the special category status at the time of bifurcation. “The TDP has no role in it. Its MPs Y S Chowdary and C M Ramesh did not raise their voice or supported Venkaiah Naidu. TDP MP Gundu Sudha Rani had argued against Polavaram Project. Today, what we get from the Central government is all because of the BJP, particularly Venkaiah Naidu and TDP has no right to claim,” he asserted.
He also blamed the Congress for its criticism on the Polavaram project and said that the Congress government did not think of the project and the 10 mandals that are to be transferred to AP to build the project. It was the BJP which had merged seven mandals and there is need for merger of three more mandals if the Polavaram project has to be completed to give water to Rayalaseema by gravity, he said. He wanted the Congress leaders from the State to take up merger of Dummugudem and two more mandals from TS government and asserted that the BJP would support it.
Acknowledging the contribution of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy for Polavaram Project, the BJP leader said that the NDA government would complete the project on time. “Rajasekhar Reddy had started the project and completed 60 to 70 per cent of the canal works. We acknowledge his contribution. Later BJP, through the AP government, is now completing the project. The NDA government is giving funds and the TDP government in the State is executing the works. The credit should only go to the BJP and not to any others,” he reitered.
He sought to blame the TDP for remaining silent when some leaders were criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and burning his effigies. “Why is this government silent? Why no single case is booked when the Prime Minister’s effigy is burnt?” he asked. The BJP MLC also blamed the TDP for criticising Modi on special category status. “Some of the MPs, Ministers and MLAs have criticised Modi on special category issue. A TDP MLA was behind when a film actor hurled abuses at Modi in US. The TDP is not following the mitra dharma. However, BJP is doing its best for the State without anyone asking for it,” he said.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu for the package announced to the State, Veerraju said that the State would get around Rs 3,500 crore every year through the package.
The BJP leader said that the NDA government had made AP power surplus by giving huge subsidies to start solar, gas and coal power projects in the State. He further claimed that the Central government had given subsidies to install solar pumpsets, LED bulbs and other energy saving devices to the State without being asked.
The BJM MLC also claimed that the Central government had given Rs 65,000 crore for national highways and express ways to be build in the State. The government had also given Rs 5,000 crore to the State to start three defence units. The Central government had also sanctioned 1.90 lakh houses, cleared Rs 5,000 crore each to 31 Amrut cities from the State. “Even the Waterways Project in the State is given by the BJP led government,” he said and asserted that the TDP had not asked for it. “There is no need for any party to ask BJP to develop the State. We have our own vision and we are going accordingly,” Veerraju reiterated.
BJP leaders R Venkata Krishna and P Dilip were also present.
