Outrage Over Journalist Gauri Lankesh’s Murder
Bangalore: Gauri Lankesh ( 55), senior journalist who was known as critic for right-wing Hindutva politics, pro-poor and pro Dalit was shot dead on Tuesday evening by unidentified assailants at her residence.
She was daughter of Editor and founder of ‘Lankesh Patrike’ , a weekly tabloid .Her siblings Indrajeet and Kavitha are film makers in Kannada industry. There were series of protests across Bangalore after the murder. Karanataka CM Siddiramiah ordered for SIT probe into the murder while opposition party, BJP demanded CBI probe.
As her body was lowered into the grave, there were series of slogans ‘Gauri Lankesh Amar Rahe’. Journalists, activists carried out protests by saying intolerance and threat to freedom of speech.
US Embassy condemned the murder of Lankesh by saying attack on freedom of press. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also condemned the killing of the journalist.
Central Home Minister chaired a special meeting with top officials of Ministry. He sought a report from Karnataka Government on the killing.
Congress VP Rahul Gandhi slammed BJP for its killing ideology along with RSS. Gadkari condemned the allegations of Rahul Gandhi and said these are baseless and non sense.
