One Dead After Car Ran Into Pedestrians At New York Times Square

One person killed and several injured at New York Times Square on Thursday at around noon when a car ran into pedestrians.

Washington, D.C.: At least one person was killed and about 12 people injured when a high-speeding car plowed into pedestrians on Thursday at New York Times Square, one of the busiest streets in the New York downtown.

The incident occurred on the 45th street near Madame Tussauds Museum. The car hit a poll and perched up on it.

The driver is under custody, and the police are performing investigation on his background. Reports say that the incident was an accident and not related to any terrorist activity, but the police are yet to confirm that.

A Student From Andhra Pradesh Killed In a Car Accident In The US

Indian student at Northern Illinois University lost his life in an accident. The association of Indian students described him as an “energetic cricketer.”

Washington, D.C.: Sai Kumar Adluri, a student pursuing masters in electrical engineering at Northern Illinois University, was killed in a road accident on Sunday morning. He is from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The victim’s car was reportedly hit by another car at the back killing Adluri on the spot. He was with his friend when the accident happened. His friend is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

A native of Sri Bomma Raja Puram, a small town near Tirupati, Adluri was an “energetic cricketer,” according to the Indian association at the university. Adluri represented the university in the mid-western championship, the association said.

He was supposed to graduate in December 2017.

Adluri was a compassionate human being who never thought twice before lending his hand for help, the students said. He was a brother everyone wished they had, they said.

The association is working to send Adluri’s body back home. It has also set up gofundme page to raise funds for this purpose.

Ponnam, six others injured as car overturns

Hyderabad: Former MP and TPCC vice-president Ponnam Prabhakar Goud miraculously escaped with simple injuries when the car in which he was traveling overturned near Nampalli village road turning under Vemulawada mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district in the early hours. Six others travelling in the car also suffered injuries.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday when Ponnam and six others were returning after they had a darshan of Lord Rajarajeswara Swami at Vemulawada. Besides Ponnam, Karimnagar urban bank chairman Rajasekhar, former chairperson of zilla parishad A Lakshman Kumar, City Congress president Karra Rajasekhar, Ponnam’s relatives Sandeep, Ramakrishna and Chandar and car driver Srinivas were travelling in the car at the time of the mishap. It is learnt that the car was over-speeding due to which the driver lost control resulting in the car somersaulting.

They were rushed to a private hospital in Karimnagar for emergency care. Their condition is stated to be steady (NSS)

Four charred to death in car accident

Hyderabad: In a ghastly accident, four people were burnt to death after an Alto car in which they were traveling hit a road divider and caught fire at Pedda Amberpet on the Outer Ring Road near Hyderabad city on Monday.

It is said that two of the victims — Shivakrishna and  Srikanth — were residents of Parkal in Warangal district,  while the third one  Raju was from Narsakkapally near Parkal,  and  the fourth victim Sashidhar hailed from  Bellampally in Adilabad district. They went to Shamshabad Airport to see off their friend Bhaskar who left for Coimbatore, and were returning home. All the victims were in the age group of 25-28 years. The bodies were totally burnt. 

The car, bearing the registration number TS 03 EL 6551, is registered in the name of Sandela Rajeshwari of Parkal in Warangal district.

Meanwhile, Minister for Transport Mahender Reddy has assured that the government will provide relief to the families of the car accident victims.  He got the accident details from the officials concerned and conveyed his sympathies to the families of the victims.

The minister said that vehicle drivers should not indulge in over-speeding and rash driving and. They should follow the safety rules, he said. -NSS
