Old notes pose problem even for the dead

Hyderabad: TPCC spokesperson Vijay Naidu said on Thursday his relative V. Srikanth died on Wednesday and when the body was taken for cremation at Tarnaka, the Smashan Vatika officials demanded Rs 18,000 in new currency notes or 100 rupee notes only. As they refused to take old notes, funeral rites were delayed for over five hours as they had to raise funds from all and sundry to complete the ritual. He demanded action against the cremation ground officials for not accepting old banned notes in spite of the government’s declaration that they were valid till November 24.
