Noted Spiritualist Sadguru Sivananda Murthy No More
HYDERABAD: Well-known spiritualist and Scholar Sadguru Kandukuru Sivananda Murthy passed away at his ‘Gurudham’ ashram in Warangal in the wee hours of Wednesday. He was 87.
Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Manikyala Rao, senior IAS officers JAC Prasad and L V Subrahmanyam, MLA Surekha, District Collector Karuna, Cine writer Sirivennela Sitharama Sastry, former M P Janga Reddy, Former Minister Capt Lakshmikantha Rao and several other dignitaries paid their last respects to Guruji. The last rites of Guruji will be held this evening.
The Guru has large following among Telugu people across India and several other countries. He has two ashrams one at Warangal and the other at Bheemli near Visakhapatnam. He has established Sivananda Trust and Andhra Music Academy. He was awarded honorary doctorate by the Andhra University in recognition of his services.
Sadguru Sivananda Murthy has published a number of books and articles in newspapers and journals, on Indian Heritagbe and culture, Spirituality and Philosophy. He was born on December 21, 1928 into a royal family of Urlam and Devadi Villages in Vizianagaram District of Andhra Pradesh. His parents Veerabasavaraju and Sarvamangala were great worshippers of Lord Shiva and built around 200 temples in His dedication. From his child hood days, he was deeply drawn towards spiritual subjects and especially towards Yoga sastra.
Sadguru Sivananda Murthy ’s essays on contemporary subjects like cultural, political and spiritual history were serialized in a Telugu daily, and was later published in two volumes under the name of Bharatiyata. His commentary on Kathopanishad received profound acclaims from the Paramacharya of Kanchi and Sringeri Shankaracharya. Some of his speeches and articles have been published into books – Bharateeyata, Bharateeyata -2. He has written books on ‘Katha Yoga’.
Guruji is the Chief Patron of Sanathana Dharma Charitable Trust that honours deserving individuals who contribute to the field of Arts, Science & Technology, Literature, Medicine, Journalism, Humanities and other intellectual pursuits. Andhra Music Academy was established to promote the cause of ‘Indian classical Music’ and dance which is slowly losing its roots. The Academy has been successfully organising a Music festival every year in Hyderabad. (NSS)
