Non-Bailable Warrants Issued To Actors Surya, Sarath Kumar
Chennai: Eight actors including Surya, Sarath Kumar, Sathyaraj, Vivek, Arun Vijay, Sri Priya, Cheran and Vijay Kumar were issued non-bailable warrants by a judicial magistrate court in Udhagamandalam, after they failed to appear before the court in connection with a defamation case.
The case was filed as these actors humiliated leading Tamil news daily and a journalist, following a report of prostitution in the Tamil film industry. According to counsel K Vijayan, the actors spoke against the publication at the South Indian Film Artistes Association meeting in 2009.
Thus petitioner Rozario Mariya Soosai filed a private complaint under section 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code, urging the court to register a defamation case against the actors.
Meanwhile, the actors approached Madras High Court and filed quash petitions. These petitions were recently dismissed.
As the actors failed to appear before the judicial magistrate court in Udhagamandalam on 15 May 2017, the judge issued non-bailable warrants against them and adjourned the case till June 2017.
