No Nonsense Karnataka Jails DIG Transferred
Bengaluru: As expected, Karnataka Deputy Inspector of General (Prisons) D Roopa has been transferred. A notification to this effect has been issued by the State Government on Monday.
A major controversy had erupted following leakage of a report submitted by the DIG that AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala was being provided special privileges in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru. The report alleged that Sasikala had paid Rs. 2 crore as bribe to Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao and other jail staff for allowing the AIADMK leader special privileges, including a special kitchen for preparation of her choicest foods.
As per the notification, Roopa has been transferred with immediate effected and posted as Inspector General of Police and Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety.
Incidentally, the State Government affected the DIG’s transfer along with four other senior IPS officers. This could be to mute possible charges that the transfer could be a witch hunt against the downright honest officer.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has tried to downplay the whole episode. It may be recalled that the CM had earlier warned that action could be taken against the officer for violating service rules by going to the media.
However, Roopa has denied doing so and blamed Satyanarayana Rao for the leak.
