New Video Showing Sasikala Entering Jail In Civil Dress, Creates Uproar
Bengaluru: Though the Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah transferred the honest cop Roopa after she submitted a report regarding the violations of jail rules at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison regarding treatment of AIADMK interim general secretary VK Sasikala, a video that emerged on Monday only proved what the cop said was more than true.
The video shows Sasikala and her relative Ilavarasi walking into the prison from the main entrance. Both women, who were convicted by the Supreme Court in a disproportionate assets case, were seen walking into the jail entry of the high security prison attired in civil clothes. This has given to a suspicion if Sasikala and Ilavarasi were allowed to walk out of prison by the jail authorities.
The video has now been given to the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Karnataka police for further investigation.
It may be recalled that the former DIG of prisons, D Roopa has submitted footage taken from the CCTV recording of the central prison complex, as part of her statement to the ACB. The video only strengthens the suspicions about Sasikala’s VIP treatment.
In a strange twist, a Congress leader alleged that Sasikala was provided various privileges inside the prison. The Karnataka Congress Committee Member Muthu Manickam writing a letter to CM Siddaramaiah alleged that DGP (prisons) Sathyanarayana Rao allowed Sasikala to go shopping. He also said that Sasikala went around shopping complexes in the city wearing a burqa.
A major controversy has erupted following leakage of a report submitted by the DIG that AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala was being provided special privileges in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru. The report alleged that Sasikala had paid Rs. 2 crore as bribe to Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao and other jail staff for allowing her special privileges, including a special kitchen for preparation of her choicest foods.
Later, Roopa has been shunted out of her post.
Sasikala was lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru after the Supreme Court sentenced her and asked her to surrender before the magistrate in February. She along with her two relatives, Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi, is serving four-year jail sentence.
