New Drainage, Roads Schemes For GHMC
- KTR hints at new legislation to streamline municipalities
Hyderabad: Major changes are in the offing in the administrative structure of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao told the media persons on Wednesday that six more circles would be created in addition to the existing 24 circles. The government is contemplating a new legislation to bring all the municipalities under one umbrella so that the employees can have uniform service conditions. Then the employees of all local bodies can be transferred to any place in the State. This provision is not there at present. The minister has suggested that a new contract system would be in place for laying the roads in the city. He said Jaypee Construction Company has come forward to lay roads in the city with new technology. It is being taken up on experimental basis at KCP and Nagarjuna Circle at Punjagutta.
KT Rama Rao has said a comprehensive drainage and road improvement scheme for the capital city would be taken up soon. He said there is no need for apprehension at creating more number of districts, revenue divisions and mandals. When late NT Rama Rao brought in mandal system there was uproar and even films were made castigating the move. What happened afterwards is history. There has been a lot of decentralization in the administration and the government could reach the villages more effectively. People should not be afraid of changes and they, instead, should welcome them with open arms, the minister commented.
