Nayeem cases discussed by top cops

Hyderabad: A meeting of the senior police officers of Telangana State was held on Tuesday at DGP office to discuss the issues related to Nayeemuddin, the Mafia don who ruled the roost with the help governments and the police force for almost 20 years before he was killed in an encounter last month.
It was decided to file charge sheets in the cases pertaining to the crimes perpetrated by the gangster. The government would file charge sheets in the courts where the cases were taken up. The legal and administrative aspects of the cases and the precautions to be taken in case the police officers involved in the loot were to be booked were also examined. The Special Investigative Team (SIT) had submitted a detailed report to the government in Monday. Two MLAs and two MLCs and more than twenty police personnel were allegedly in league with the Moist turned police informant turned mafia don. The top police officials have decided to close the investigation in the case within three weeks.
In the meanwhile, I G Nagireddy, who has been heading the SIT, was on Monday replaced by TS Additional DG (Law & Order) Anjani Kumar. DGP Anurag Sharma had also given five additional officers to work in the SIT under Anjani Kumar. Karimnagar ASP Priyadarshini, Khammam Additional SP Saikrishna, SB Additional DCP Mohammad Ismail, Ghoshamahal traffic ACP P Jaipal and Narsingi Inspector P Ramachandra Rao are the officers who have been added to the existing team.
Since the formation of the SIT on 10 August 2016, 72 cases have been booked and 80 persons arrested. Sources close to the chief minister’s office say the CM was unhappy with the way investigation was going on. The officers who were brought into the SIT are known for their efficiency and integrity. Nagireddy, being a local man, was not getting full cooperation from his colleagues in the department, it is said.
