Nayani flags off 100 fire fighting bikes
Hyderabad: Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy flagged off 100 bikes comprising fire tenders at People’s Plaza on Necklace road here on Tuesday.
The two wheelers with fire tenders will rush to fire accident sites in congested areas and douse fires, he said. While there are 119 Assembly constituencies, 100 fire tenders were sanctioned as of now, he said adding the state government will set up one fire station in every constituency. Adequate number of fire stations will be set up at cotton, ginning mills and market yards and other places where there is a possibility of a fire accident.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was planning to strengthen the Fire Department with latest equipment, Nayani said. There was no dearth of funds and the Fire Department had already purchased latest equipment, including big ladders to reach high-rise building apartments.
Home Secretary Anitha Rajender said the new bikes of fire tenders will prove handy to avoid loss of life due to fire accidents. There is also a need for professional drivers for the purpose as the existing staff is not capable of making it to the accident spots, the official added.
State Disaster Response and Fire Services Director General Rajiv Rathan said they are expanding the mini-tenders across the State as 19 tenders started in the city last year were giving positive results.
