Nara Lokesh Ready To Take Charge As Naidu Prepares For US Visit

IT Minister Lokesh is said to be getting ready to ascertain his position in the Cabinet as his father and CM Naidu is heading for US tour on May 3.

Amaravati: The young Minister in AP Cabinet, Nara Lokesh, seems to be unable to wait for his turn to ascertain his position in the State government and the politics. Having started to speak on the election strategies too, Lokesh is on a fast track to take over the reins from his father.

The scheduled 10-day tour of Chandrababu Naidu, which is to begin from May 3, seems to be an opportunity on hand for this aspiring leader to establish his authority. He had already established his power in the party by being incharge of its membership programme and in his capacity as national general secretary. Now, having stepped into the Cabinet from the Legislative Council, the future leader of the State is set to get things under his control.

The absence of Chandrababu Naidu from the State politics and governance for 10 days is seen as an opportunity for Lokesh to get control over the administration. In all likelihood, Chandrababu Naidu is also said to leave a word with the senior Babus and Ministers to be in touch with Lokesh for any important decision to be taken in his absence. This is seen as a golden opportunity for this young leader to prove his metal and establish his power.

Lokesh had already won over a handful of Cabinet Ministers and 50 per cent of the legislators since his elevation as Minister on April 2. Senior Ministers like Nimmakayala Chinarajappa are in his favour now. Of the two deputy chief ministers, he had already won Chinarajappa and is yet to win over K E Krishna Murthy. Though he is not ready to touch senior minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Lokesh had established his authority over Ministers like Prathipati Pulla Rao, Nakka Ananda Babu, Siddha Raghava Rao, Kollu Ravindra, Sujayakrishna Ranga Rao, K S Jawahar and Kala Venkata Rao. The other Ministers like Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Pithani Satyanarayana and Kalava Srinivasulu are in his favour.

These 10 days are seen as a golden opportunity for him to bend Ministers like S Chandramohan Reddy, Atchannaidu, Ayyannapatrudu and Paritala Sunitha in his favour. It is to be seen how the young leader Lokesh makes use of the absence of his father for the next 10 days.

IT Minister Lokesh Gets Guru For Telugu Pronunciation

The rising star of the TDP, Nara Lokesh has been having problems with Telugu pronunciation. He has started taking tuition from Peddi Rama Rao.

Hyderabad: It is clear from the past incidents that IT Minister Nara Lokesh is having problems in Telugu pronunciation. He was found with foot in his mouth many times.

At last he found a teacher to solve this problem. The teacher is none other than Dr Peddi Rama Rao. Rama Rao, who is brother-in-law to Actor Rajeev Kanakala( anchor Suma’s husband) did PhD in Fine Arts from Central university of Hyderabad.

Dr. Rama rao, who worked as Assistant professor in Telugu Department, was chosen to teach Telugu communication skills to Lokesh. This is mainly due to Suma’s association with NTR’s trust, with Singer Bala Subramnyam and with Union Minister Venkiah naidu.

Rama Rao has previous experience in writing scripts for late NTR and we have to see how he will cope with Lokesh in coming days.

IT Minister Lokesh’s Name Dropped From US Tour

Dropping Lokesh’s name from the US tour raises questions among political circles.

Amaravati: There seems to be a gap running between AP CM Chandrababu and his son IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and it is sounding odd among political circles.

A few days ago, there were contrast statements between the two about PM Modi’s slogan, ‘One Nation One Election.’ Now from the US tour, which included 15 delegates, Lokesh’s name was dropped in the last minute on Tuesday night.

The exact reason for omitting his name is not known, but a few say that he did not get clearance from union external minister. As per TDP sources, Naidu dropped him in the last minute to look after the state affairs.

Whatever the reason may be it’s a big disappointment for Lokesh and his followers. But experts say that the dropping would send a wrong message to AP people, as CM’s tour is also to attract IT investments. For this time, it is going to be in the absence of AP IT minister.

Young Boss Takes Over AP As Naidu Leaves For US

AP IT Minister Nara Lokesh is settling down to his business by attracting IT firms to come to Amaravati. He inaugurated the offices of 7 IT firms in Medha Towers at Gannavaram, which he claimed as first step towards making Amaravati the IT hub.

Amaravati: The successor-in-waiting in Andhra Pradesh politics, Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, had swung into action on the first day of his father and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu left the State for his 10-day US tour. Though Lokesh was included in the tour in the middle of the plan, he was dropped from the itinerary in the eleventh hour. He is now left to lead the State politics and government till Naidu returns to the State after 10 days.

On the first day, Lokesh inaugurated the office spaces for 7 IT companies at the Medha Towers at Gannavaram on the outskirts of the city. He was accompanied by Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Kollu Ravindra, MLCs A S Ramakrishna and Batchula Arjunudu, MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi on the day one. He said it was only a beginning to make Amaravati the IT hum as he leads the IT Ministry in the State.

He welcomed the IT companies including Grupo Antolin, Melsova, EP SOFT, Yamyah IT Solutions, Chandu Soft, Melsova and Rotomaker, which are into IT consultancy, designing, digital educational services, projects and products. The AP Non-Resident Telugu Society based in US had helped Lokesh to record his first initiative of welcoming the IT companies to the State.

Lokesh, while interacting with the media after the inauguration of their office space, said he would do his best to develop the State with the responsibilities given to him. He took strong exception to the remarks of Opposition leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy calling him Pappu and Corrupt as well. He dared Jagan Mohan Reddy to prove his charges or tender open apology to the State.

Nara Lokesh Accompanying Naidu To US

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is going to the US with Yenamala, Nara Lokesh and 15 others in the first week of May. The name of Lokesh was added in the last minute.

Sources said the Chief Minister felt that meeting CEOs of IT companies in US without state’s IT minister would send a wrong signal. Moreover, reports of Naidu making his son in-charge of all the affairs in his absence have also not gone well within the party and outside. 17-member team including finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Nara Lokesh will be accompanying Naidu which will go to Chicago, San Fransisco, New York and Washington DC and will meet the CEOs.

Lokesh, A Comedian Like Brahmanandam: Anil Yadav

YSRCP MLA Anil Kumar Yadav compared Jagan with Baahubali and Lokesh with Brahmanandam.

Amaravati: YSRCP MLA Anil Kumar Yadav came up with a controversial statement when comparing their leader with Nara Lokesh. As per him, both Lokesh and YS jagan has only one similarity that is being CM’s sons.

Anil further added that YS Jagan is Andhra Baahubali and he will win in next elections like Baahubali hit.

God made him opposition leader so that he will understand the difficulties faced by the people before taking over the reins, Anil felt.

In a comparison between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Nara Lokesh, Anil compared their leader to Baahubali and Lokesh to comedian Brahmanandam. One has to see how the reaction of Lokesh will be to this comparison.

Early Polls-Dad Proposes, Son Disposes

Nara Lokesh says no to early polls. He disowns hints of his father on early elections and says it is not possible.

Amaravati: The people of Andhra Pradesh heard different voices from the Nara family. While Nara Chandrababu Naidu hinted at the possibility of the State going for early polls, positively at the end of 2018, his son and Minister for IT, Nara Lokesh dismissed it saying that there is no such possibility and need too.

Naidu had hinted at early polls in the State during his meeting with the party senior leaders, including Ministers, a couple of days ago. As Minister, Lokesh too was present at the meeting. The TDP chief wanted to go for early polls projecting the two prestigious projects of Polavaram and Amaravati. Naidu is confident of getting votes for his party on the progress of these two prestigious projects and that is the reason why he is constantly monitoring the progress of the works. While elections are slated for June 2019, Chandrababu Naidu wanted to bring them forward to the end of 2018, if his plans go well.

Interestingly, Naidu is also toeing the idea of ‘one nation – one election’ call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had backed this idea as that would bring down the expenditure and minimise the security issues connected to the elections.

But, son Lokesh ruled out the possibility of having early polls. He had also discounted the ‘one nation – one election’ strategy of Modi-Naidu. The son says that having elections in 2018 is not possible or not advisable for Andhra Pradesh. The States like Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have elections in January 2018, while Meghalaya and Nagaland are due for polls in March 2018, Karnataka in May and Mizoram in December 2018. According to Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh has to go for elections along with big States like Gujarat or Karnataka as that would benefit, but Gujarat (January) and Karnataka (May) are too early. This would take more than one-and-a-half years of the present term of the TDP for which Lokesh is not prepared. If elections are proposed for November-December season of 2018, the Election Commission may consider the request as Mizoram too is slated for the polls in the same season. But, Lokesh appears to be disinterested in going for elections along with a small State like Mizoram.

Whatever is the reason that Lokesh subscribed to say no to the early polls or simultaneous polls, it is for the first time that Naidu had a no for his decision and that too from his family. It is to be seen how Naidu would react to this.

Naidu Elevates Son Lokesh By Another Step

AP CM Naidu’s government had issued GO making Lokesh a member of the State Industrial Promotion Board member.

Amaravati: The efforts to promote Nara Lokesh are continuing in a phased manner. After the reshuffle of the cabinet and the subsequent change of the portfolios of some of the Ministers, who are members of this Board, the government had issued GO incorporating the names of the new members. Taking advantage of the situation, the government had also extended the membership to Lokesh, an elevation that gives the young Minister to have control over the new industries coming to the State.

The board has Ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, P Narayana, S Chandramohan Reddy, C Adinarayana Reddy, K Kala Venkata Rao and Pitani Satyanarayana. The board meets every month and clears the issues concerning to the industrial policy, licences and other issues

Campaign Begins To Project Lokesh As Future CM

Lokesh is being projected as future Chief Minister. If Chandrabau Naidu wants to prepare his son for greater challenges, he has to train him rigorously in every aspect of public life.

Amaravati: The campaign to promote Nara Lokesh as the future CM of Andhra Pradesh starts with deputy chief minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa taking the lead. Chinarajappa had offered a great reception to Lokesh in West Godavari district on Tuesday where he had introduced the young Minister as the future Chief Minister of the State. In fact, when Lokesh was introduced as future Chief Minister, the gathering greeted him with whistles and claps coupled with slogans.

Lokesh, the worthy son of Chief Minister Naidu, has been getting due publicity in the State politics since the party’s victory in 2014. He claims that the party’s victory was possible with the membership drive and consolidation of the cadre done under his supervision.

As national general secretary of the party Lokesh made his entry into the Cabinet from the House of Elders, Legislative Council. Now, being part of the Cabinet, he leads the Andhra Pradesh administration, though Naidu as Chief Minister is the practical head. Lokesh’s word carries weight and it is said that he enjoys a say over the decisions of Naidu. In fact, it was because of his intervention that Naidu took four days time to clear the IAS transfers in the State.

Even as the dissidence in the party continues with leaders openly criticizing Naidu, the young leader Lokesh is slowly establishing himself as the future leader of the ruling TDP and the right successor to Naidu.

Lokesh, is a graduate from Stanford Business School and the only son of Chandrababu Baidu. He was repeatedly heard pronounce Telugu words even during oath taking ceremony as an MLC. He sadi “Sradhanjali” instead of “ Sradhasakthi”.

These videos went viral in social media , but as per TDP leaders it was just a slip of the tongue and such mistakes must be ignored.

Naidu Shows Political Diligence To Induct Lokesh Into Cabinet

Hyderabad: The rule “practice what you preach” seems to find no place in the “ethics book” of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as is evident after he inducted four defectors from other parties into his ministry, which he expanded on Sunday.

Naidu expanded his 20-member Cabinet for the first time in two-and-a-half years mainly to ensure a berth for his son Nara Lokesh for which he has been working diligently all these years. After making sure of his son getting elected as an MLC, he took the next obvious step to induct him in his cabinet on Sunday. He claimed that he was reshuffling his ministry to weed out some deadwood besides giving an opportunity to a few new faces.

As per his well-scripted plan, Naidu dropped five members from his cabinet. He expanded the Cabinet by inducting 11 new members, including five in the place of those dropped. Among those inducted into his new ministry were four members, who had defected from YSR Congress. They are: Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao, Amarnath Reddy, Adinarayana Reddy and Bhuma Akhila Priya.

Though he dropped two women ministers from his earlier cabinet, he inducted only one woman — Akhila Priya — during the rejig. What is intriguing is that in his 26-member Cabinet, there was not a single Muslim minority.

Naidu claimed that the reshuffle and expansion exercise of his Cabinet was mainly with an objective of getting prepared and winning the elections in 2019, one cannot ignore the fact that his hidden agenda was to elevate his son Nara Lokesh as an heir apparent for his political legacy.

There is no denial of the fact that the TD supremo was trying to emulate his counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Telangana. Like KCR, who was grooming his son K.T. Rama Rao as his heir- apparent by entrusting him with important portfolios like IT and Municipal Administration, even Naidu seemed to be keen on allotting to his son crucial ministries like IT and Panchayat Raj.

What has come as a big shock was that Naidu, who made a hue and cry over Telangana Chief Minister KCR inducting Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who had defected from Telugu Desam in the TRS Ministry, has himself audaciously inducted four defectors from YSR Congress in his Cabinet.

It is pertinent to recall here how Chandrababu Naidu accused even Governor ESL Narasimhan of administering oath of office to Srinivas Yadav, who had not resigned from the TD and continued to remain a TD member. He even charged the Telangana Assembly Speaker of unethical practices of not disqualifying Srinivas Yadav under the Anti-Defection Law and allowing to be even inducted into the TRS ministry.

What is more, Naidu even tried to move heaven and earth in New Delhi accusing KCR of practicing undemocratic and unconstitutional and unethical practices.

Surprisingly the same Naidu, who talked about ethics in politics, seemed to have conveniently forgotten his own preaching to his political opponents of the neighbouring State and unabashedly inducted as many as four defectors into his ministry ostensibly on the plea that all is fair in love and war. But his actions have definitely not gone well within his own party as many senior TD leaders have started to revolt against him.

Already disgruntlement started brewing in various districts across Andhra Pradesh. Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, a senior leader, who has been in the TD since inception, hoisted the flag of revolt against Naidu by resigning from the party as well as his MLA post for being unceremoniously dropped from the Cabinet.

Many other senior leaders, including Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, party’s general secretary Bonda Umamaheswar Rao and many other leaders at district-level have begun quitting the party. Even the Muslim minorities in the State are upset with the Chief Minister for not inducting a single member of the community in the Cabinet.

They alleged that the CM seemed to be “saffronising” the State under the influence of BJP with which the TD is an alliance partner both at the Centre as well as in the State.

Naidu’s action of inducting the four defectors from the YSR Congress also received flak from his own erstwhile minister and party leader Srinivas Yadav, now a minister in the KCR’s TRS Government. Srinivas Yadav ridiculed and lambasted Naidu of talking about unconstitutional and undemocratic practices and preaching political ethics when he himself had inducted defectors into this ministry.

Naidu has also become a target in this regard from the Congress and even the Left parties. Thus, the Chief Minister seems to have conveniently forgotten what he tried to preach to his political opponents.

Will Lokesh Entry Lead To TDP Downfall?

Amaravati: The induction of Nara Lokesh into Cabinet along with defected MLAs is ringing danger bells to ruling party, according to political analysts.

Defected MLAs should have been resigned and re-elected from TD, felt a senior analyst. This triggered anguish among senior leaders of TD who expected Cabinet berths in reshuffle. Induction of Lokesh into Cabinet sent a clear signal that he will play a key role in 2019 elections, but at present scenario, it will be tough for him to maintain the heat created by seniors and face the leader of opposition Jagan, who has more image than him in masses.

On the other hand, Lokesh has to face political guest star Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan, who is keeping pressure now and then on the promises made by TD during 2014 elections. We have to watch how Lokesh will convert this into positive from his corporate style of working. TD leaders are confident that Lokesh has the capability of emerging as universal leader once he interacts with public as minister.

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has a vast experience in suppressing a situation which may affect the result of power and can balance the equation whenever required which has to be learned by Lokesh in quick style.

Cabinet reshuffle created panic in senior leaders of ruling party. They became silent after meeting CM Naidu, but the internal heat is still continuing in them who might look towards Jana Sena or YSRC when time cope up just before elections.

This is a big task before the TD or else party will face downfall which they faced in 2004 and sat in opposition for a period of 10 years

Chandrababu Packed His Cabinet With Aggressive Voices

Dara Gopi
Amaravati: Having seen the failure of Ministers in countering the opposition aggressively during the last two and a half years, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had packed the Cabinet this time with more aggressive and assertive voices. So far the Chief Minister had just one voice of K Atchennaidu to attack the Opposition more aggressively. He is now backed by four more aggressive voices for the next half of the term to go.

The inclusion of Kaluva Srinivasulu, Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy, Nakka Ananda Babu and Pithani Satyanarayana from his own party and C Adinarayana Reddy and D Amaranadha Reddy from the YSR Congress had now made the Cabinet stronger and aggressive in countering the Opposition. Though senior leaders like K Kalavenkata Rao, are taken into the Cabinet, the Chief Minister is set to back on Srinivasulu, Chandramohan Reddy, Adinarayana Reddy, Amarnadha Reddy, besides Atchannaidu to counter Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Assembly. While Srinvasulu, Chandramohan Reddy and Atchannaidu are set to be aggressive, Adinarayana Reddy and Amarnatha Reddy are likely to be used to counter Jagan Mohan Reddy from his personality angle as they were part of the YSR Congress till recently. In fact it was the same trick that Chandrababu Naidu had used in the just-concluded Assembly session by making Jyothula Nehru and Adinarayana Reddy to speak against Jagan Mohan Reddy when the Assembly adopted a resolution against the Leader of Opposition. The same would be continued in the Assembly sessions to be held in the next two years.

These aggressive voices would be an added advantage for the ruling party besides the sarcasm that Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu displays in attacking Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Assembly, which would now be the strength of the ruling party. Given these intentions, the Assembly sessions to be held hereafter would have more of fireworks than of meaningful debate.

Back home in the ruling party, the highest priority given to the YSR Congress legislators in the Cabinet reshuffle is causing tremors. Senior leader Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, who was dropped from the Cabinet to accommodate the YSR Congress legislators had slapped his resignation letter in protest. Senior leaders Dhulipala Narendranath and Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary are upset for not accommodating them. They are expressing their displeasure over the denial of the Cabinet berth for them this time too as there are no chance of another reshuffle before the 2019 elections. In the north coastal districts, senior legislator Gowthu Samsundar Sivaji is fuming at the leadership for denying the Cabinet berth. He had been with the ruling party for many years and is a seventh time legislator. In Krishna district, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao is not happy with the party chief and is said to be thinking on changing his strategy. He had been very aggressive in criticizing the Leader of Opposition both inside and outside the Assembly since his election in 2014. Similarly, another woman legislator V Anitha, who was vociferous in attacking Jagan Mohan Reddy and R K Roja is unable to digest her non-inclusion in the Cabinet.

With growing dissent within the party, it is to be seen how Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would handle the party and lead it to the 2019 elections.

AP Cabinet Rejig: A Shameless, Listless Exercise, Violation Of Anti-Defection Law

Amaravati: The eleven ministers who were sworn in by Governor ESL Narasimhan have been picked up by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reportedly keeping in view 2019 election. The long awaited decision to induct Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh has been executed. Now Lokesh has to catch up with K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), the rising son in neighbouring Telangana State.

There has been a criticism, valid to a great extent, that Kammas are dominating in the Cabinet and the other politically dominant community, Reddys, have not been given enough berths. Naidu has answered this criticism by taking four MLAs, three of them defectors, of this community from this community. Besides fulfilling the need to give representation to the community, the Chief Minister has also taken care to see that a Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is effectively checkmated in his own citadel of Pulivendula. Induction of Adinarayana Reddy, who defected from the YSRCP and who is representing Jammalamadugu, neighbouring constituency to Pulivendula, is noteworthy. There are unconfirmed reports that the CM is planning to get Pulivendula constituency bifurcated to fix Jagan. Akhilapriya, daughter of Bhuma Nagireddy who died of heart attack recently, was taken into the cabinet fulfilling a promise made to father and daughter at the time of their defection from YSRCP into the ruling TDP. The other two Reddys are Amarnath Reddy and Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy. In all, there are 16 ministers from general castes and ten from the Bahujans.

In all, four defectors were inducted. Governor Narasimhan who was criticised by Naidu for giving oath to Talasani Srinivasa Yadav as a minister in K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Cabinet in Telangana. It is remarkable that the Governor has been cheerful when he administered the oath to the defectors on Sunday morning.

The Muslims remain without representation in Naidu’s Cabinet. The tribal are not given an opportunity. No Brahmin or Kshatriya was picked up. There are six Kammas and four Reddys. Two Reddys, Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy and Palle Raghunatha Reddy, have been dropped to cap the number of Reddy ministers at four. Other ministers who have been dropped are Ravela Kishore Babu, Kimidi Mrinalini and Peethala Sujata. These were ministers by the grace of Naidu. They have no clout to stage a revolt. Bonda Uma and Anita who went out of the way to attack Jagan have not been rewarded.

The next elections cannot be influenced by the new or old ministers since they are not given any freedom to improve their image through independent decisions. They have to be dependent on the CM or Lokesh since he is going to be the most important minister after Naidu.

Lokesh has taken oath immediately after Kala Venkata Rao who is State president of the TDP. Seniors who were ministers earlier like Chandra Mohan Reddy and Pithani Satyanarayana had to wait for their turn after Lokesh. The changes effected today are pedestrian and there is no vision or philosophy or any moral message. It is amoral to induct defectors. It is against social justice to limit the number of representatives from the Bahujans who constitute 85 percent of the population. Two women were dropped and one was taken thus reducing their numbers. Ministers who have been facing allegations like Pathipati Pulla Rao, Narayana and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao have not been touched. Both Governor Narasimhan and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu have not covered themselves with glory by this questionable exercise. The anti-defection law has been violated shamelessly.

Lokesh To Be Law-Maker From Today

DARA GOPI

Amaravati: Telugu Desam Party national general secretary and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s son, Nara Lokesh, would turn a law-maker from today when he takes oath as Member of the Legislative Council for the first time. In the presence of the party senior leaders, Ministers and other newly-elected members, Lokesh would take oath as MLC in the Council on Thursday morning. He would take the oath in the Council Chairman A Chakrapani’s chamber around 9.30 am, before the session begins. He was elected to the Council from the MLAs quota and is a sure candidate for the Cabinet post in the next reshuffle slated for first half of April.

Perhaps the youngest leader to be the member of this elders’ House, Lokesh would have just two days experience in the House before he becomes a Minister in his father’s Cabinet. While he is expected to sit in the Council in the morning session listening to the other members’ speeches where a good number of them, particularly from the ruling TDP, are expected to shower praise on him. The TDP MLCs are preparing long speeches packed with phrases and praises to define the leadership qualities of Lokesh. The Council Hall is set to see the glorifying speeches of the Members to welcome a new and young member to the House.

This young member of the law-making body is all set to be the prime player in the State government for the next two-and-a-half years. Though his father Chandrababu Naidu would be at the helm of affairs as Chief Minister, it would be Lokesh as a Minister in the Cabinet, who is set to lead the government for all practical purposes. The Chief Minister wants to groom his son as the future leader of the State while he is in the office and ensure smooth passing of the power from his shoulders to his son.

Lokesh would be the second son in Telugu States to be in the father’s Cabinet. In Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s son K Taraka Ramarao has been there in the Cabinet for the past two and a half years.

Lokesh Awfully Rich, Jagan Matches

Hyderabad: Two political families and hundreds of crores of wealth in the name of the scions is the story of Andhra Pradesh, united or residual. We are talking about late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on one hand and Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh on the other. Both YSR and NCBN were chief ministers. Their sons were getting rich during the tenures of their dads as CMs.

Nara Lokesh had filed his nomination papers for the MLC elections on Monday. He had also submitted an affidavit to the Election Commission declaring his assets at ₹ 329.52 crore which includes ₹ 273.84 crore in movable assets and ₹ 56.52 crore in immovable assets. His wife Brahmani owns movable assets worth ₹ 17.90 crore and immovable assets worth ₹ 4.15 crore making the total worth ₹ 22.05 crore. Their son Devansh too has assets worth ₹ 12.20 crore which includes ₹ 2.70 crore movable and ₹ 9.5 crore immovable assets. The value of the assets declared by Lokesh In style at a press conference five months ago was meagre compared to the one submitted to the EC. On 19 October 2016, 34-year old Stransford graduate Lokesh had announced, in keeping with the wish of his father that politicians should declare their assets periodically for the sake of transparency, that his total assets stand at a value of ₹ 14.50 crore that includes ₹ 2.52 crore from the shares in Heritage Foods and a car valued at ₹ 93 lakh.

However, the family owned Heritage Foods has sold its business wing to Fortune Retail Ltd., a Kishore Biyani owned retail chain, which includes Big Bazar Super markets, in November last year soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his controversial decision of demonetisation. Today Lokesh’s family has assets worth of Rs 363.77 crore almost 90 percent of it in the shape of shares and debentures. There is a hue and cry on the assets of CM’s son growing by 22 times in just five months.
YS Jagan, YSRCP chief and Opposition leader in AP, had declared his assets in the affidavit at the time of elections showing the total worth of his assets as ₹ 446 crore. His wife Bharati owns assets worth ₹ 57.73 crore and their daughters Harshini and Varsha own assets worth of ₹5.69 lakh and ₹ 2.19 lakh respectively.

With father BCBN owning assets worth ₹10.14 crore and mother Bhuvaneswari having assets worth of ₹32.54 crore, the total worth of the assets owned by NCBN family comes to more than ₹400 crore. Lokesh was not involved in the family business. He inherited the assets being the only son of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Though the figures surprised many and gave room for allegations of corruption, a business analyst has explained the statement thus: “When the family is disclosing its numbers to the public, it takes the book value of the shares. But, when it comes to submitting the details of assets to Election Commission, a candidate has to declare the With basing on the prevailing market value at the time of preparing the statement. The notional increase in the asset value may surprise some people.”

YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Vijayalakshmi had two children- Jagan Mohan Reddy and Sharmila. Both of them lived in Bengaluru as long as YSR was chief minister although Jagan became an MP a few months before the tragic death of his father. Jagan was known to be business-savvy. 44-year old Jagan plunged into politics on full-time basis only after the sudden demise of his father. Lokesh, on the contrary, as national general secretary of the TDP, has been virtually running the party even before his father became CM. In both the cases the worth of the assets has been calculated according to the market value of the shares held by them.
