Naidu Gives 3 Months Deadline To Irrigation Officials To Complete 28 Projects

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has given three months time for the officials of the Water Resources Department to complete 28 irrigation projects in the next three months. He has set 2018 as deadline for the officials and contractors to keep the Polavaram Project ready to give water to Krishna delta on gravity, while continuing the work to complete the total project by December 2019.

Polavaram: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has given three months time for the officials of the water resources department to complete the ongoing 28 irrigation projects in the state.

The Chief Minister inspected the progress of works at Polavaram Project and the Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme on Monday and held a review meeting with the officials and contractors at the project site. The Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme is planned to supply water for the Yeleru ayacut, besides giving water for Visakhapatnam through the left canal of the Polavaram project. The scheme is scheduled for inauguration on August 15, with two out of 10 pumps set ready for operation.

Riding on the success of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme that supplies Godavari river water to Krishna delta through the Polavaram Right Main Canal, the Chief Minister has directed the officials and the contractors to get ready to meet the deadlines.

Naidu wanted the officials to complete the projects in the next three months and supply water for the next rabi season. The Chief Minister is also happy with the progress of kariff season in Krishna delta with the Godavari water made available in the first week of June.

The Chief Minister has made it clear that both the Krishna and the Godavari rivers in the state would not get the water from the upstream after the bifurcation and wanted the officials to develop local projects to preserve the rainwater. It is for this reason he has launched 28 irrigation projects, including the lift irrigation schemes on the rivers and rivulets.

Besides, the state government is going aggressively on the water conservation schemes with the Central funding. The water harvesting projects like farm ponds, check dams, desiltation of irrigation tanks and the trenches are being readied across the state under various schemes of the Central government.

The Chief Minister is also firm on completing the prestigious Polavaram Project by December 2019. He had instructed the officials to keep the project ready for supply of water by gravity to the Krishna delta for the next kariff season in 2018. The gravity water will supplement the water given from the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation scheme.

Naidu promised a better agriculture season across the state from 2018 as the projects on hand are ready to be completed by then. He has been holding a regular review of the projects on Mondays, keeping the officials and the contractors on toes to meet the deadline.
