Naidu attacks Jagan on Pattiseema

  • Vows to complete the project in one year
  • Assures the House on Polavaram

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu lambasted the leader of opposition in the State Assembly YS Jaganmohan Reddy for making sweeping comments on government without knowing the realities and facts regarding irrigation projects on both Krishna and Godavari rivers, on Wednesday.

Jagan blamed the government for offering bonus of 16.9 per cent along with 5 per cent excess estimations for construction of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project. He also blamed  Chandrababu Naidu for taking  up the Pattiseema project by ignoring the Indira Sagar Polavaram project which will serve the entire State if it is  completed. He said that during  Naidu’s nine year tenure as CM, he did not initiate even a single work with regard to  construction of Polavaram project and did not allocate money. Until YS Rajasekhar Reddy became the chief minister,  no previous governments spent funds on the Polavaram Project. He said that because of Chandrababu Naidu’s failure in construction of projects in his nine year tenure, the  State has lost water from rivers of Krishna and Godavari. During the government of Chandrababu Naidu, the Almatti Dam height was increased, he criticized.

Reacting to Jagan’s criticism, Naidu slammed him by mentioning some facts regarding river water sharing, construction of projects and canals, arguments submitted by government to different authorities like Tribunals and Supreme Court. He said until NT Rama Rao became the chief minister, no earlier  governments initiated any action to provide water to the Rayalaseema region. “Rama Rao made it clear that our State had legitimate right to use the excess water which is draining into the sea. When Rama Rao initiated construction of Telugu Ganga project to provide water to Rayalaseema, the then opposition created hurdles. Now also  Jagan is trying to make it difficult to compete the Pattiseema Project ”,  Naidu said.

The Chief minister said that at any cost his government will complete the Pattiseema project within a year and will divert water to Rayalaseema region for drinking as well as irrigation needs. He also said government will complete the Polavaram project with the help of Prime minister Narendra Modi government within four and half years. (NSS)
