MVVS Murthy Provokes AU Faculty, Students
Visakhapatnam: A careless remark made by the senior Telugu Desam leader and MLC Mr. MVSS Murthi on the Andhra University on Thursday sparked off controversy, pushing TDP into trouble just ahead of party’s three-day Mahanadu, slated to be held from May 27. Deeply upset by the comments, the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the University sought an apology from him.
The MLC remarked that there was nothing wrong with their decision to hold their plenary on AU grounds when the institute turned into a devils’ home with buildings lying derelict, adding that they were cleaning them to give a fresh look to the buildings. His remarks came as a response to the criticism that the party was going against the GO which prohibited political and religious meetings on the premises of educational institutions. He was speaking to media after visiting the AU Engineering College grounds.
The Minister for Human Resources, Ganta Srinivasa Rao had to condemn the ‘reported remarks’ to take the heat out of the controversy. “Being a gentleman in the city, he should not have made such comments damaging the reputation of a prestigious institute,” he said.
