Muthangi mosque demolition: Cong hits back at Asaduddin, calls him opportunist
Hyderabad: The Congress party has lambasted AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for a tweet in which he accused the then Congress government of allowing demolition of a mosque at Muttangi village in Medak district in 2005.
Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, in a media statement on Friday, condemned the Hyderabad MP for his “baseless and misleading statement” against the Congress party.
“Asaduddin Owaisi was trying to wrongly link the Congress party with the incident of demolition of Muthangi mosque during road widening. He might have forgotten that in 2005, the MIM was an ally of the Congress not only in the State, but also at the Centre. Asaduddin sailed with the Congress till 2013 and used to feel proud while posing for pictures with Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders. Why Owaisi did not level this allegation in 2005 itself and why he enjoyed power for over eight years after the incident?” he asked.
Abdullah Sohail said the MIM leaders are habituated to befriend the party in power. “Initially, MIM was an ally of Congress in the then united Andhra Pradesh. After Congress lost 1994 elections, MIM became an ally of TDP. It came back to Congress fold after the party won 2004 elections. Sensing changes in political situation in view of Telangana movement, MIM severed ties with Congress just a few months before 2014 general elections. Despite openly opposing Telangana, MIM is now an ally of TRS. Asaduddin Owaisi is an opportunist, who is now sailing with Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre,” he alleged.
“The MIM chief is targeting the Congress only to please BJP and its secret ally TRS. He is supporting each and every move of BJP and TRS either directly or indirectly,” he said. He also alleged that Asaduddin tried to give a communal twist to demonetization move by alleging that ATMs and banks in the Muslim-dominated areas were not being provided with cash. Congress workers held protests across Telangana State against demonetization. But MIM leaders are supporting the Modi Government by remaining silent on the issue. -NSS
