Thousands of Muslims and many Muslim Organizations feel that the Law Commission is attempting to impose uniform personal law on Muslim community. All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) received a huge response, when it conducted a signature campaign across the country against UCC. In Hyderabad, several Muslims gathered at mosques across the city and signed the proforma. According to Peer Khaleeq Sabir, general secretary of Jamiat-e-Ulama Hind city chapter, signatures were collected at mosques in Secunderabad, Hashmatpet and Amberpet.
Tehreek-e-Muslim Shaban, a Muslim organization, has been campaigning silently against UCC from last one-and-a-half month. The organization has been conducting several rounds of discussions with Muslim leaders across all sects. Shaban plans to organize a national conference on 13 November by inviting all party leaders (Muslim and non-Muslim), except BJP and RSS leaders, to seek their support.
Mushtaq Malik, president of Tehreek-e-Muslim Shaban, said that the BJP government is trying to polarize their community by pushing its agenda through UCC.
However, the BJP government defends the UCC saying that the principles of gender justice could be protected by having the code as an academic exercise.
