MPs’ salaries to go up
New Delhi: The Central government is reported to have agreed to raise salaries of Members of Parliament from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1lakh per month. The Prime Minister’s Office is learnt to have agreed to consider a recommendation made by the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament, headed by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath. It is also expected that the Parliamentarians’ allowances will be hiked. If the committee’s another suggestion is accepted, MPs will get more air tickets and soft loans for buying motor vehicles.
A bill is expected to be passed in the coming winter session of Parliament to increase the MPs’ salary and allowances.
The government is also planning to raise the President’s salary from Rs 1.5 lakhs per month to Rs 5lakhs and that of the Governors from Rs 1.10 lakhs to Rs 2.5 lakhs.
